Tonics serve as the main reward sweetener in this episode, giving you a means to target specific drops by drinking the right tonic. It can also be used as a way to boost artifact traits in your build, making it perfect for pushing a difficult GM Nightfall or Master raid. Even if you're not an avid Destiny 2 player, you'll want to craft a few tonics to get the new seasonal gear. Let me show you how.

What is a tonic?

Destiny 2 Tonic Example

Tonic serves as a proxy for the seasonal upgrade grid that most Destiny players are familiar with. You can use tonics to modify activity rewards, enemy drop tables, and even artifact perks. This is the main source of seasonal gear in Revenant, so it's important to use this system regularly.

Tonics come in two forms:

  • Volatile tonic: This enhances the artifact perk with new properties.
  • Strengthening Tonic: This modifies activity rewards and monster drops.

The tonic lasts 20 minutes by default, but rarer variants tend to last longer. As you craft tonics throughout this season, you'll discover rarer and more powerful recipes that will further enhance your rewards.

Tonics come in three rarities: Uncommon (green), Rare (blue), and Legendary (purple).

How to make tonic

The seasonal quests don't really explain how to make tonics, but the process is surprisingly simple. Let's break this down into several steps.

  1. Interact with the Tonic Table in the Last City hub. Aid is right next to it.
  2. Choose the tonic you want to make.
    1. Reagents for this tonic can be found in seasonal content and quests.
  3. When finished, exit the table.
  4. Go to the nearby ingredient cupboard and get the ingredients.
  5. Interact with the tonic tester next to the shipwrecked Fallen Walker. Ai is behind me too.
  6. Activate the tank to generate tonics.

Tonics are crafted in one large batch, so you don't have to repeat steps 4-6 for every single potion you have waiting for. In other words, You use the tonic table to create potions, then move around the tonic room to actually brew them. It's a busy job, but you only need to do this once per batch.

Using Tonic

Destiny 2 Tonic Menu

All tonics are located at: Inventory tab to the right of the Character tab. Once you get there, you will want to Check out our tonic capsules It's near the top of the screen. Doing so will reveal all the Volatile and Enhancing Tonics you've crafted so far.

Tonic capsules are only used for drinking tonic and checking reagents. Tonics cannot be crafted in this menu.

Once you select the tonic you want to activate, a timer will start. Only one Volatile Tonic and one Empowered Tonic can be active at a time. Activating a new tonic will take precedence over previous tonics.

How to Obtain Reagents

Destiny 2 Tonic Reagent

Reagents are commonly found in Revenant content and slain enemies. Almost all resources can be found in Onslaught: Salvation and Murdered Scorn. Enemy drop rates are not guaranteed, but if you have a solid build and have some extra clears, they are a decent source of reagents.

If you need to resupply reagents, complete Eido's Field Investigation quest. All minor quests provide a small bundle of materials upon completion.

How to unlock new tonic recipes

Destiny 2 Eido's Tonic Lab

A new tonic recipe has been discovered. Craft the same tonic multiple times. Basically, every tonic that unlocks (special tonics) appears to have rare and legendary variants that are unlocked when you make enough copies of that specific tonic.

For example, Onslaught gear is unlocked by default and provides seasonal gear. Once you've crafted 5-10 copies of this tonic, you'll discover the Vintage Assault Weapon Tonic, which provides a means of targeted farming for Assault weapons. Crafting a copy of that rare tonic will unlock the legendary variant.

there is 15 volatile tonics and 30 strengthening tonics Episode: The Revenant can produce this. Volatile Tonics increase in strength and duration with increasing rarity, giving you multiple Artifact perk upgrades in one tonic. Enhancing Tonics allow you to target specific drops more effectively and for a longer period of time, which is why there are more Enhancing Tonic recipes.
