Sparking Zero Producer Seemingly Denies Super Cartoon Characters

Main Content

  • If you were expecting characters like Morona Granola from Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, think again.
  • According to game producer Jun Furutani, the game has many challenges and various situations will occur while playing.
  • The development team is likely still feeling the effects of Akira Toriyama's untimely death, and the characters have yet to be animated, so their designs and voice actors have likely not been finalized.

Since the Dragon Ball Super anime went off air in early 2018 after the popular Power Saga tournament, the manga has continued to run strong until Akira Toriyama’s untimely death. That arc, which has yet to be adapted into an anime, introduced several new characters and several new forms to the Dragon Ball universe.

Nonetheless, with Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero’s October release date fast approaching, many fans have been wondering if these characters, forms, or storylines could make their way into the game via future DLC. After all, the game has a confirmed season pass that will bring Super Heroes and Daima characters to the game.

But in an interview with IGN, game producer Jun Furutani revealed whether that would be the case. In short? No.

It's very complicated

When asked if characters like Granolah and Moro could possibly appear in the game, Furutani said through an interpreter:

“At this point, simply put, it's difficult for him to talk about this. Yes, yes. Because of various circumstances. I'm sure you understand.”

This answer may be disappointing to diehard Dragon Ball fans, but it is very valid. Above all, there is no doubt that everyone involved in this game is still dealing with Toriyama’s death. Using a character he touched before he died would soon feel wrong.

In the same vein, since these are characters that only appear in the manga, it would likely be difficult to determine how they would look in the anime. Not to mention having them voice-acted in both subtitles and dubbing, which probably wouldn't have been discussed.

Nonetheless, assuming this arc is eventually animated and Sparking! Zero gets a sequel or support after its first year, there’s definitely a way for Moro and his companions to play. Even if it’s not there at launch, Sparking! Zero has the potential to be a dream game.
