Roronoa Zoro, the swordsman of the Straw Hat Pirates, is a very important character who first joins Luffy on his journey to become the Pirate King. Zoro is one of the Pirate King's wings and always fights by Luffy's side. Likewise, Zoro wants tremendous power to make Luffy the pirate king and to keep his promise to Kuina, his one-time close friend.
In canon one pieceZoro obtains this power by constantly training hard and improving his swordsmanship skills without considering consuming the Devil Fruit. However, Eiichiro Oda, the creator of this work, one pieceAlready assigned the Devil Fruit to Zoro in Volume 98 of One Piece. According to Oda, if Zoro were to ingest a Devil Fruit, his perfect ingestion ability would be none other than Uo-u-onomi, model: Seiryu, belonging to the Dragonko Kaido of the Sea. By doing so, Oda is ascribing Zoro's potential to that of the Yonko Kaido.
One Piece Volume 98, Roronoa Zoro's model Seiryu Uouonomi officially confirmed
With the release of One Piece tickets, Eiichiro Oda answers fans' questions through an SBS corner. In Volume 98 of One Piece, which was officially released on February 4, 2021, Eiichiro Oda confirmed the perfect Devil Fruit for all Straw Hat members through a unique corner on SBS. As for Zoro, Eiichiro Oda confirmed that he will have the ability of Uo-Uonomi (Model: Seiryu). This ability was first shown in One Piece Episode 921, officially released in Shueisha Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 47 on October 22, 2018, and officially named in One Piece Episode 999, officially released on December 21, 2020.
Q. What kind of fruit do you think Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, and Franky would have eaten if they had powers?
O: I see. That's a pretty interesting question. Hmm… What I want to see is…
Zoro: Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu (I want the sword to turn into a dragon rather than Zoro. It would be really cool.)
Nami: Gorogoronomi
Usopp: PokePokenomy
Sanji: Sui Sui no Mi
Frankie: Buki Buki no Mi
— Eiichiro Oda confirms Zoro's potential Devil Fruit, SBS Volume 98
In a conversation between Big Mom and Kaido about the God Valley era, it was officially confirmed that Kaido ate Uouōuōnomi, Model: Seiryu, and not a variant of Ryuryūnomi. In Volume 98 of One Piece SBS, Oda confirmed that if Zoro had Devil Fruit powers, he would have the same powers as Kaido. This is because Zoro is associated with dragons as well as the land of the samurai, and having dragon powers would be absolutely perfect for him. At the same time, just as Kaido wanted to become the strongest being alive, Zoro also wants to become the strongest swordsman in the world. This similarity in nature is also why Zoro is a perfect fit for Uo Uo no Mi (Model: Seiryu).
“It was I who gave you your Uowonomi on the day Rox was destroyed, Model: Seiryuu. You owe me your whole life, Kaido!” — Big Mom explains how Kaido ate the Devil Fruit. One Piece Episode 999

Say hello to the new Straw Hat King in One Piece
The Straw Hat Pirates welcome a new king at the climax of the Elbaf Arc.
Zoro's power with his Seiryu Devil Fruit powers will push him beyond Yonko level
Interestingly, when Eiichiro Oda confirmed that Zoro would have the powers of the Seiryuu Devil Fruit, he clearly stated that in his case, Zoro would not eat it himself, but rather eat it with one of his swords. This is a unique concept that exists in the world of One Piece, and in the modern world it is mainly developed by Vegapunk, but it has existed for a long time, and the existence of Ragnir, a hammer with the power of Lithrisnomy, is confirmed to be a model: Ratatoskra — The mythical Joan Devil Fruit that was officially introduced in Episode 1183 of One Piece in Issue 26 of Shueisha Weekly Shonen Jump, May 25, 2026.
“He ate the Inu Inu no Mi. Model: Daschund. His name is Lassoo. He's a gun! It's the Grand Line's latest technology! Even objects can eat devil fruits.” — Miss Merry Christmas explains the concept of devil fruit eating objects. One Piece Episode 184
The Devil Fruit weapon concept was introduced in One Piece Episode 184 on May 28, 2000, in the Inuinunomi, model: dachshund, eaten by Rasu during the Alabasta arc. This concept has since expanded enormously, and more recently characters like Shamrock have been shown to have similar powers. In One Piece Chapter 1138, Shamrock Pigaland, one of the most powerful characters in the series, is shown to have the power of Cerberus in his sword.
If Zoro has a devil fruit, it will manifest through his sword. It's unknown which sword it will appear on, but using a sword with dragon abilities can lift Zoro high into the sky and make it seem like enemies are fighting him and Kaido at the same time. This power is so great that it can easily push Zoro to Yonko level and even beyond. Zoro has become so strong that he can easily rival the elites of the One Piece world, such as the top tier like the Five Elders, and even defeat the likes of Mihawk.
Zoro's future power-up after the Elbaf Arc
As we know, Zoro's perfect Devil Fruit powers, highlighted by Eiichiro Oda, will never be used up on him. Zoro is not a Devil Fruit eater, and his entire fighting style is based on not utilizing his Devil Fruit abilities. So we can be sure that Zoro will never eat the Devil Fruit, but that doesn't mean his powers can't grow.
Zoro is currently in line to take on the power of Haki King in the Elbaf Arc. Zoro officially awakened this power in One Piece Episode 1033, released on November 29, 2021, and utilized the ability in One Piece 1035 on December 20, 2021, and has used it several times since, but is still unable to control it. In Chapter 1152 of One Piece, which was officially released on June 23, 2025 in Shueisha Weekly Shonen Jump's 30th issue, it is confirmed that Zoro's control over the Conqueror Haki is extremely limited, which is why the battle with Saint Somers exists in the present.
“You belong to the three demons. You are the one who ruined the feast of your old friend. My companion is on his way to town, and I think your companion is dead and will not return.” — Zoro prepares to face Sommers. One Piece Episode 1187
July 5, 2026, one piece Chapter 1187 marks the beginning of Zoro vs. Saint Sommers, and now it's time for the Straw Hat swordsman to bring out the Haki of a true conqueror and take his sword to the next level. By coating the blade in the Great Haki, Zoro eventually turns the sword black and grows in strength. By the end of One Piece, Zoro will have become much stronger than the majority of Yonko, standing tall as one of the most powerful individuals in the world, much like Sanji.
