Currently, Luffy is not at his prime, but he is very powerful, especially with the awakening of Gear 5. Naturally, fans are wondering if Luffy will actually be able to unleash his powers beyond Gear 5 and access Gear 6 in the future. The answer to this question is pretty easy, but some fans may still need to elaborate on it. That is the purpose of this article.

Can Luffy learn Gear 6?

Answering the question of whether Luffy will continue to learn Gear 6 is quite simple. Gear 6 will never exist and Gear 5 will be the pinnacle of Luffy. This is down to the fact that Luffy himself called Gear 5 the pinnacle of his power. Of course, this doesn't mean that Luffy won't grow in terms of strength, but it's closer to saying that Luffy has reached the peak of his Devil Fruit form. Luffy awakened the fruit, which means Gear 6 cannot exist. Gear 5 will be Luffy's pinnacle and final form.

Moreover, there's still a lot of intrigue in Gear 5, and fans have yet to utilize its full potential. It will take some time for Luffy to fully learn and get used to the power of Gear 5. So far, Luffy is struggling to keep this up for long. This means there is still work to be done. That means One Piece is already included in the Final Saga, and Luffy doesn't have enough time to develop new Gears either. Therefore, Gear 5 can be seen as Luffy's prime, which means that Gear 6 does not exist in the future of the story. That doesn't mean Luffy can't become stronger. Because he absolutely will.

Luffy will most likely not grow in terms of his Devil Fruit abilities, but he definitely will grow in terms of Haki. As pointed out in the Egghead Island Arc, Luffy has never reached the peak of his Haki abilities. Although he has advanced form of all three types of hockey, he still needs to improve them tremendously. Luffy can't see the future as well as Shanks, and most importantly, he can't use the Conqueror's Haki Infusion just like him. Luffy has already reached a certain level that Oda highlighted.

As seen in the Egghead arc, when Joy Boy's Haki was freed by Emet, the Elders were all knocked out of their demonic forms and Saturn's summoning was also canceled. This is something Luffy cannot do on his own. This essentially means that Luffy's Haki must reach this level to have any chance of fighting people like the Elders and Imu and defeating them.

Oda has clearly set goals for Luffy to achieve when it comes to hockey, where he should focus all his attention and how he needs to grow in the future. That said, this power has nothing to do with Gear 5 and we'll see him grow in a very different way. So while Gear 6 certainly won't exist in One Piece, it will grow dramatically in the Final Saga by improving Haki.
