The first Kingdom Hearts may be over 24 years old, but that hasn't stopped players from discovering and restoring new cut content in Traverse Town.
While most Kingdom Hearts fans point to the second game as the true pinnacle of the series, the game that started it all makes a very good case for itself. This is definitely the most unique mainline entry in the franchise. This is especially true if the focus is on exploration and secrets.
While Kingdom Hearts 2 and 3 focused on combat and more complex story beats, the first game shows just how densely packed each world is, with every world hiding numerous secrets. Some of these secrets took years to find, and somehow previously undiscovered cut content was discovered after as many as 24 years.
There are still secrets left in Kingdom Hearts. Because new cut content has just been discovered.
Traverse Town almost had a race in the second section.
Professional speedrunner ViolinSpeedruns took to Twitter to share a very interesting discovery he just made in the original Kingdom Hearts. GICU discovered that the second section of Traverse Town was originally planned to have players race to jump up the surrounding ramps without falling.
Successfully completing a race will cause the fountain effects to all turn off at the same time during the celebration, but you can't see this in ViolinSpeedruns' video. The minigame itself was apparently deleted at some point during development, but was restored by GICU and made accessible after discovering unused code.
While Cut Race isn't the biggest discovery made in the original Kingdom Hearts, it's very interesting to see that a game that's almost 25 years old still has a few surprises and things to discover. very A dedicated community. I'd like to say that the game is now fully mined, but who knows what other secrets are hidden in the code?
