ARC Raiders wasn't a game that caught my attention throughout 2025, and only really caught my attention in the last month or so. I had never played an extraction shooter before. While I'm in love ARC Raiders So far, I think it's a perfect introduction to the extraction shooter genre for a beginner like me, but I'm starting to regret playing it solo for one big reason.
The risk of losing all the loot you find during a match makes the high-risk, high-reward gameplay of extraction shooters as follows. ARC Raiders yummy. And the community interaction I experienced as a solo player felt like a well-rounded experience, with a mix of friendly interactions and tense combat. But I think I still prefer playing the game with friends, at least at first. Because playing solo exacerbates the sense of isolation that comes with entering the Rust Belt, and leaves you feeling incredibly vulnerable without a teammate to watch your back.

I played my first few games without any prior extraction shooter experience. ARC Raiders Very carefully. My only real goals were to find loot, complete early quests, and get back to the safety of Speranza without dying. To this end, every encounter with the other Raiders and ARCs had the intensity of a horror game, more intense than the type of shooter I was used to.

The sound design of ARC Raiders made me very paranoid.

I spent most of the first few games crouching, afraid that my footsteps would be too loud. I can imagine having a squad with you provides some sort of security regarding noise levels. Because you can keep an eye on your teammates while you break in and search. ARC Raiders stash. With no team behind me, I often felt like I was going crazy, scared by strange tumbleweeds or even my own footsteps.
One advantage of playing solo is that you can sit in complete silence and listen to other players more easily than if your team is talking to you.
Solo ARC Raiders was the scariest game I played on Halloween
Like many people, I used to play Halloween games and hand out candy to trick-or-treaters. This Halloween we enjoyed the following games:

surely, ARC Raiders I'm an outlier here, but I'm so addicted to the game that I didn't play a single bit of the spooky selection in the evening. It is not a horror game in the traditional sense, but a game about trying to survive. ARC Raiders That night was still the scariest experience I've ever had.
Turning off the lights and trekking through the dark basement of a building on the Buried City map, feeling constantly watched and wondering if I was really hearing footsteps or just imagining them, was more tense than anything I've felt in a horror game in a long time. At one point I almost had a panic attack when a tick unexpectedly jumped onto my character's head, and I had to quickly react to button prompts to shake it off. If you played with a squad, you could at least chat with your friends to keep yourself occupied, but as a solo experience it was, to say the least, terrible.
