It's officially time to postpone the launch of the next-generation PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

In the latest apocalypse related video game news, the Steam Deck OLED has finally been restocked. playstationXbox, Nintendo and the true gamers of the future. And frankly, that's not sustainable or an economy that can afford the launch of the PlayStation 6 or the Xbox Helix (both rumored to be released by Holiday 20207). The price of the 512GB OLED model increased by $240 from $549 to $789, and the price of the 1TB model increased by a whopping $300 from $649 to $949. Unfortunately, this is a result of ongoing RAMageddon supply issues caused by increasing economic strain and AI data centers both within and outside the United States.

Of course, prices for everything from PlayStation to Xbox have increased over the past year, so this Steam Deck OLED price increase isn't new or even unexpected (even if the cost is noticeably disgusting). But it almost certainly won't be the last, and that's the problem.

Steamdeck OLED has been restocked, but the price has soared up to $300 due to the economic downturn amid the ongoing DRAM shortage crisis.

It's official: Steam decks just got more expensive.

Gamers looking to buy the new Steam Deck will have to pay a higher price than before, as Valve has revealed new prices for the popular handheld device.

Prices for the PS6 and Xbox Helix continue to rise even before they're even revealed.

In the near future, Valve will likely want to release and sell a Steam Machine. The new PC/console hybrid is undoubtedly a big moment for consoles, and while price has always been a consideration, recent economic times have turned that moment of celebration into one akin to walking on glass. With the price increases for these Steam decks, it's highly unlikely that Steam Machine won't cost more than $1000.

Moreover, the recent price increase pushed the PS5 Slim console with a disc tray to $649.99, the PS5 Pro to $899.99, and the Xbox Series X also hit a steep price of $649.99. Hardware should become less expensive as it ages and should never be more expensive than when it was released. And it's likely to rise again by the end of the year. Windows Central's Jez Corden recently predicted that “PlayStation and Xbox will raise prices again before this is over.” And I completely agree. In fact, the whole thing about AI data centers and RAMageddon contributing to ongoing economic problems is still prevalent, and it seems like nothing has been done to reverse it or protect consumers around the world.

And when that happens, they might be playing around with $1000. So once the PS5 and Xbox Series The Steam Deck will be there and the Steam Machine will be placed on top of it. No matter how advanced the PS6 and Xbox Project Helix consoles are, a simple fact remains: In an ever-expanding economy, no one can afford it. If this generation reaches incredibly grim highs, we can expect the next generation to do the same. For example, pricing discussions around the PS6 are already bleak.

Maybe there will be a big shift before Holiday 2027, and maybe the next-gen consoles will be released at a reasonable price and out of these disgusting highs by at least that time. Perhaps the next-gen consoles will be able to forget about all the issues that have affected the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S since launch so far. But if next-gen can't do that, Sony better keep the PS6 close to its chest, and Xbox should stop talking about the Xbox Helix at all. As long as these ongoing issues remain, Holiday 2027 won't be able to afford these consoles, and both Sony and Xbox will have to delay them for the good of their own sales (and, more importantly, their players).
