As I like a good desktop RPG, I sometimes want to reach the action without 20 pages of character seats. You want to go to good things: dice rolls, monsters die, cruel satisfaction of difficult victory. That's where the dark fantasy board game comes in.
They bring all the best parts of the genre (desolate world, terrible monster, moral gray choice) and pack them with their own experiences. This is a list for my fellow genre pureists. This is a list of games that prove that you do not need knowledge of GM or semester to truly get dark fantasy modifications.
Gloomhaven: Lion's chin
Gloomhaven without homework
After sinking for more than 100 hours in Gloomhaven, I can say that the original is a beast, but the lion's jaw should start if it wants to taste the silly world. This version is much more simplified and can be directly entered into tactics and card -centered battles.
The first few scenarios are completely centered on tutorials, so if you are easily overwhelmed by a huge rule book (like me), this is a great lifetime of life. It still made the original popular through challenging boss fights and character progress, but it feels much more easily accessible.
Returns to the Dark Tower
A game run without GM
When I first returned to Dark Tower, I was taken by a huge electron tower sitting in the middle of the board. It is a fantastic special effect, but keeping playing was the way that all the decisions made you feel more tense. The tower constantly reminds us that big and scary is on the corner.
You never know when it will abandon a new monster or abandon a destructive plague. The collaborative 'American Great Game' epidemiology is great. I remember a particularly terrible session that the tower did not defeat the boss to cause a fatal event.
Blood anger
The defeat was never so good
I like a good Viking story, and blazage anger offers a dark fantasy experience that is rooted in Norwegian mythology. Blood anger was built around the fight for card system and board control. But this game allows you to embrace defeat when you get a dying point in battle.
This is a risk of not being taken in a different way. Sometimes you can deliberately die to send a warrior to battle.
Night cage
Be trapped and alone
This game is technically collaborative, but it is constantly separated from the team members. You play in the dark, and the only light comes from the tiles you are on. This creates a phobia and a terrible atmosphere. The isolation is practical, and all steps make you feel as if you are waiting for a mistake.
It is very interesting for everyone to play the typical cooperative game play on the same page. Here, you are all desperately trying to survive alone. In this horror theme tile placement game, you will try to save your soul.
Mansion
Fear in board games
Madness's mansion is more tiled on the fear of things, but the Lovecraftian environment is a dark fantasy. It is an app -based story that makes this game special. The app reveals the secret when handling and exploring all aspects of the game, like monster movement. This allows you to explore the game together without GM.
I once played a scenario where my character was angry and started to see things that didn't happen, and the app wondering whether it was real by changing my goals and monster actions.
Avoid dark castles
Vivid book
Dark sex escape is a beautiful example of simplicity. It is a minimalist art style collaborative dice roll game that feels like a forgotten relic in the old fantasy book. Every turn, you tell the Snippet who tells a cruel story and draw a chapter card that instructs you to face the challenge.
This game focuses on the stories and thrills of the dice, and peels up a lot of fluff. Luck is quite important. As soon as you start playing, it's easy to fit the dark atmosphere.
Deep madness
In order for the game to bring you
I have played a lot of cooperative board games, but there are different madness regarding tension. The game takes place at the deep sea research institute and the station itself is constantly deteriorating when fighting a terrible love craft monster.
It is a 'madness' mechanic that actually differentiates the game. This mechanical ball is a game changer, allowing the character to lose his heart slowly and get new and unpredictable abilities. It keeps you on your toes and force you to continue to know how to play new.
Contaminated Holy Grail: Avalon's fall
Narrative story
If you are looking for a dark fantasy epic in the box, it is a contaminated holy grail. The world where it is built is based on the dying Arthur's legend and is an amazingly miserable place. The turn is based on resource management, including health, spirit and basic supply.
This story is a cruel and unforgivable journey, forcing you to make a hard moral choice. The game is not based on the only luck, so I feel that the decision is actually important.
Mida Dara: Unintended Malroom
Do not make you deceive you
Middara is a recommended board game for those who like JRPGs such as Final Fantasy. The art inspired by the animation may not shout dark fantasy, but do not deceive you. The world is deep and surprisingly desolate. This game is full of morally complex figures and betrayal.
Battle is very tactical. Focus on positioning and powerful abilities. But there is also a serious growth feeling. You will watch your character from going to a hero who can take a large boss from a tough adventurer to a strategic teamwork.
Dark Dungeon: Board Game
It's as cruel as video game
As an enthusiastic fan of video games, I was highly expected for Darkest Dungeon: The Board Game and is absolutely provided. It perfectly captures the feeling of source materials. All the steps you take are dangerous, and all decisions feel like a cruel compromise.
The stress mechanism of the video game is completely translated. If you do not manage the stress level of the character, you may be able to start acting irregularly. You'll probably have two or more characters in the middle of the dungeon.
