Godzilla's best designs

summation

  • The 1954 Godzilla design has stood the test of time, featuring an iconic silhouette and character design.

  • The Shin Godzilla design is haunting and memorable, with its sharp teeth and lifeless eyes.

  • The Minus One Godzilla design is considered the best design, blending features from previous designs to give it a complete look.

The King of the Monsters has gone through quite a few redesigns over the years, from the dummy thick thighs of the Singular Point design to the modern classic that is Big G's appearance in Godzilla: Minus One. The most recognizable monster from movies looks a little different. The question then becomes which Godzilla design is best.

Godzilla: 10 Best Mothra Designs, Ranked

Godzilla's Mothra has gone through several redesigns over the decades.

What makes a great design is inherently subjective, but some designs stand the test of time better than others, and there's a reason why fan favorites are fan favorites. With that in mind, this is (probably) the best look Godzilla has had in years.

1954 Godzilla

By 1954 standards, the original suit looks cool…

The original Godzilla is one of the greatest films of all time, and one of the most important. When it comes to movie monsters, you have to appreciate the fact that this generic design has kept Godzilla on brand for over 70 years.

The spikes on the back, powerful tail, and overall silhouette are great in their own right, but the suit itself is clearly a product of its time. Don't misunderstand. Although the 1954 Godzilla looks amazing compared to 1954, I doubt the 1954 suit would hold up if brought back today.

Gossira

Also known as Koshira and Gojira

Godzilla Singular Point takes a science- and history-based approach to kaiju, and while it's at first as off-putting as Godzilla's SP design (known as Koshira or Goshira in the anime) makes it look, the attention to detail and realism is outstanding. We really put a lot of effort into making sure Singular Point's character expressions stand out from the crowd.

Which Godzilla TV show is the best?

Each aspect of the classic monster's design was reimagined and carefully considered, from the massive legs muscular enough to support Godzilla's weight to the length of the tail for balance. This design is one of Godzilla's most unique and creative designs.

6

Shin Godzilla

the scariest godzilla

Shin Godzilla once again completely changed Godzilla's design, breaking away from all previous incarnations to create what would become the character's most unforgettable look to date.

The creature's charred head has horrifyingly sharp teeth sticking out, and the lifeless eyes of Shingojira as it rampages through Tokyo are hard to forget. For some fans, the design strays too far from its roots, but I doubt the middling Shin Godzilla would be remembered today without this creepy monster design.

5

GMK Godzilla

A little odd, but good design nonetheless

GMK, or Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All Out Attack!, is the fan-favorite Godzilla movie that saw a major redesign of the entire cast of iconic monsters, with results you'll either love or hate very much.

Here are some of the best King Ghidorah designs we've seen so far.

GMK Godzilla looks fantastic for the most part, with a strong, muscular appearance that really sells his size and power. Unfortunately, Goji's spine looks a bit plasticky in some photos and the toes look a bit odd, but the rest of the design more than makes up for it.

4

Kiryugoji

Kiryu’s Mechagodzilla design was also pretty great.

I may have a personal bias, but Kiryu designs tend to be my favorites, especially when it comes to Godzilla. The cold, monstrous face of Kiryu's design really suits this, and the overall design feels well-balanced, with no part of it feeling too big or too small.

That said, a balanced approach may seem unrealistic to some considering that Godzilla's legs would naturally have to be much larger to support his body weight, but we're talking about a giant gorilla whale here. Still, at least a little bit of disbelief will have to be suspended.

3

KoTM Godzilla

Also known as Titanus Godzilla

It's subtle, but there are differences between the 2014 Godzilla design and the design used since the release of King of the Monsters in 2019. Of the two, the latter is the better version of the Legendary design, so that's probably why it stopped. It's been around ever since.

Godzilla's facial features have been completely reimagined to fit the film's gritty CGI style, but the design remains expressive and vibrant without sacrificing the sheer scale and power that made him such a fearsome monster. Overall, it's a solid performance.

2

Batogoji

The little ears are a fantastic touch

Godzilla's basic appearance was more or less set in stone from the beginning, but it wasn't until 1992's Godzilla vs. First used on Mothra, the BatoGoji design feels like the perfect balance between a lovable character and a menacing monster.

For many fans, the BatoGoji design is the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of 'Godzilla', and a lot of that has to do with the balanced size of the spikes, muscular legs, and, of course, the round, expressive face. characteristic. Especially those cute ears.

minus one godzilla

The ultimate design of the ultimate monster

Godzilla: Minus One breathes whole new life into Godzilla's film career, complete with what is undoubtedly the best design the King of the Monsters has ever sported, from his solid facial features to the way his spine juts out. Goji is preparing for atomic breathing.

Blending and incorporating the beast's best features from previous designs, this design feels like Godzilla has finally been completed in a way that's completely different from his previous designs. If this look is anything to go by, we can't wait to see what future films have in store for the rest of Godzilla's iconic cast.
