Fallout Day includes Obsidian's Call to Play New Vegas.

Fallout fans haven't had much to cheer about in recent years, at least when it comes to the gaming side of the franchise. Sure, there's a pretty good show in the making, and Fallout 76 is still receiving regular updates, but with The Elder Scrolls 6 currently in development, we might not get a completely new Fallout game for at least another five years.

Still, Bethesda has some classics to fall back on. The anniversary of Fallout: New Vegas has passed, and many were hoping that this year's big Fallout Day broadcast would deliver the remaster we've all been craving. Even though Bethesda has made it clear that won't happen in the show. I was hoping that Bethesda was lying too, and for a moment I thought they might be.

Fallout Day includes Obsidian's Call to Play New Vegas.

About halfway through the show, Obsidian stopped by to announce the game's 15th anniversary, raising the blood pressure of every New Vegas fan on the planet. Also in attendance were Obsidian Studio President Feargus Urquhart, Studio Design Director and Fallout: New Vegas Director Josh Sawyer, and Creative Director John Gonzalez. They all thanked fans for their support over the years and wished everyone a happy Fallout day.

But despite all these obsidian giants appearing as part of the show, there was nothing to announce or brag about at the game's 15th anniversary celebration, with only Urquhart telling people to “play Fallout: New Vegas.” He's absolutely right, and you should play it if you haven't already. But seeing something like Sawyer come along and not get the remaster announcement they wanted was a dagger driven directly into the hearts of fans.

Bethesda tried to ease the pain by releasing a limited edition anniversary bundle for the game that included some patches, pins, some cards, and a large statue of Vector, but the damage was already done. We won't be getting a Fallout: New Vegas remaster this year, and I'm starting to lose hope that we ever will. At least we always have the original to go back to.
