Fallout fans think the Fallout 76 expansion pack, which serves as a sequel to Fallout 3, could give them a good idea of when they can expect Fallout 3 Remastered.
For some time now, Fallout fans have been begging Bethesda to do something with Fallout 76, the Amazon series, or a series that isn't related to Fallout Shelter. That wish may finally come true in the near future, as Bethesda recently announced a slew of new projects it's currently working on, from a new Obsidian game to the final Fallout 5.
One of the most interesting and actually feasible things Bethesda announced was a remaster of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, which has been rumored for a long time. Unfortunately, we had no idea when the remaster would come out, so fans had to do their best to find out.
Fallout fans think 3 Remastered could be released in expansion 76.
I think I'll wait until next year
Considering we've been hearing about Fallout 3 and New Vegas remasters for a long time, many fans assumed they weren't that far off and that there was a decent chance they would release this year. Bethesda's announcement tones that down a bit and suggests they might go further, leaving fans guessing when it might show up.
On Twitter, Kevduit pointed out an interesting detail in Bethesda's statement that could give us a good idea of when we can expect the Fallout 3 remaster. Bethesda spoke about the “future of Fallout,” noting that a new Fallout 76 expansion pack is planned for 2027 that will serve as a “prequel story” to Fallout 3.
That prequel story has been confirmed for 2027, so it would make sense for Fallout 3 Remastered to release alongside it. This means that Fallout 3 Remastered will very likely be released in 2027. That's because Bethesda likely wants synergy between the two stories being told in Capital Wasteland.
Now all that's left is the New Vegas remaster, which could be targeted for release sometime in 2028. It's highly unlikely that Bethesda will release both in the same year, and Obsidian's release of a remaster of a beloved item could very well be used to promote the confirmed Fallout game. This won't be meaningful until 2028 at the earliest.
