Last night Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo showing a strange pile of petrified corpses next to a yonic doorway in the desert with the caption “regal.inspiring.thickness”. Perhaps it's a tease for the surprise reveal shown at The Game Awards. But no one is sure exactly what it is.
Some have speculated that the giant, monstrous crocodile with outstretched humanoid arms is a Daedros, while others have pointed out that the armor in the center resembles a Carved Nordic set or even an Elven one. u/Kami-no-dansei claimed that the figure underneath the crocodile looks like a dremora, but has vampire teeth and more monstrous features, as some have refuted.
The theory is that this is a gateway to the Hammerfell desert, possibly leading to the shrine of Molag Bal, and that 'Dremora' is one of his vampiric creations, a lonely, ghostly figure carved into the rock who embodies the Soul Shriven. That elven armor may actually belong to Harken from Skyrim's Dawnguad DLC. It's a solid theory, but it's also worth noting that the odds of it ever appearing are very low, as Todd Howard expressed regret for announcing The Elder Scrolls 6 too early, only saying it's “still a long way off.”
Another popular idea is that Keighley is teasing a God of War sequel and finally taking Kratos to Egypt. However, the only real evidence is a vague desert background (they don't even look Egyptian) and some fiercely contested armor that is somewhat similar to Lunda's.
Others claim that the bear's head and doorway look like they were taken directly from Diablo 4, possibly hinting at the new expansion, and there's what appears to be Malenia's helmet from Elden Ring sandwiched over a crocodile.
The Rosach test for gamers. If you look closely enough, I'm sure you'll be able to connect the dots to the fantasy series you're most interested in. The real mystery is the caption, but once you decipher it I think I will That means there are only more questions left.
Is Geoff Keighley teasing something Fallout?
u/Onsiterecordings entered Keighley's teaser into What3Words, an app that generates three-word addresses instead of GPS coordinates, and landed on a grid in the Mojave that fits the desert in the photo much better than Egypt or Hammerfell. u/fjbdhdhrdy47972 explained: “The trees are distinctly different from the area.” “They are definitely Joshua trees.”
The obvious answer, then, is that this is probably Fallout's trailer for Season 2 of the Prime Video show. In the end, it's three words and a setting that takes us to the Mojave Desert and New Vegas. But each word in the caption conjures a fantasy, as does a doorway filled with monstrous creatures, vampiric demons, and ghostly corpses. So we're back to a confusing mess.
Rather, this seems like a tease for The Game Awards themselves. Keighley is known for layering on cryptic posts to build hype, like a screenshot he shared from the Steam store earlier this month showing only one game on his wishlist. Again, here's a vague, nondescript tease that could mean anything. Maybe it's an allusion to Fallout, Diablo 4, or The Elder Scrolls. Or maybe a whole new MMO!
We'll find out soon enough when the TGA begins on December 11. In the meantime, don't get your hopes up too high for The Elder Scrolls 6 or God of War. Probably not one or the other.
