Mortal Kombat Director Reveals Shaolin Monks Remastered

Today is a day that ends in “Y”. This means Mortal Kombat fans are once again wondering when they will be able to play Shaolin Monks on modern hardware, whether through a remaster, remake, or even a simple port. But that day hasn't come yet, and last year's Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection doesn't have this title.

It doesn't help, then, that series director Ed Boon is once again teasing a return to Shaolin Monks.

One half of Noob Saibot took to Twitter to ask fans if they wanted to see Shaolin Monks or the Mortal Kombat 9 (2011) remaster first.

To date, 21,355 votes have been cast, with 1 day and 16 hours left to vote. Perhaps most surprising is the fact that the turnout total was much closer than expected, with Shaolin Monks narrowly edged out MK9 (51-49%).

After all the rumors, we now know Cole Young's fate in Mortal Kombat 2.

Cole Young was left out of Mortal Kombat 2 despite starring in the first film.

Of course, that may change in the coming hours, but considering how well-received Mortal Kombat 9 was and how it actually saved the franchise, it would be hard to believe it would lose by a landslide.

The Shaolin Monks are on everyone's mind, including the live-action actors from Mortal Kombat.

It was just 10 days ago that Max Huang, who played Kung Lao in the recent live-action Mortal Kombat film, revealed that he would like to see the iconic spinoff adapted for the big screen.

“Something I would personally like to explore would be a Shaolin Temple spinoff,” Huang said in an interview. “Rudy (Lin) talked about it. I also talked about it. It would be nice to see the origins of those two characters and how they are raised by Jo Bo-ra and train and explore White Lotus. Yes, the story of Mortal Kombat is huge.”

This also isn't the first time Boon has referenced Shaolin Monks, with Boon teasing a spinoff return in 2022. A year before that, it won a poll for the most requested remaster.

As for the MK9, it's still active online to this day and is also locked on older hardware, so its return would be equally welcome. Still, few things are as popular with MK fans as Shaolin Monks.

George Lazenby as Bond in 007 key art

I watched all the James Bond movies this month. One thing First Light needs to move in the right direction is:

James Bond has gone through many iterations over his 70-year history, but one woman has remained (relatively) consistent.
