Here's the thing: I've completed a good portion of the base game's Pokedex and the DLC's Pokedex, but since the entire base game's Pokedex and the DLC's chests don't have a single Pokemon per species, even if you've already caught them, you'll have to re-catch them for this purpose. This makes getting a shiny Volcanion a bit of a chore if you don't have all of the Pokémon yet, and can be especially problematic for special scan Pokémon from the DLC.

Nevertheless, this is the first time since the release of Volcanion that it can be obtained in shiny condition. Shiny locked Pokémon still exist, unfortunately, and there are still plenty of shiny, shapeless creatures left in the series. Now, fans will be able to check items off the list, but they'll also be able to check out some of the brighter locked Pokémon on the list.
