Vampire Survivor Reveals Plans for Live-Action Movie

summation

  • The next popular video game to be made live-action will be Vampire Survivors.

  • In a post shared on Steam, Pocle revealed that he is working on a live-action project with Story Kitchen.

  • It was previously revealed that Vampire Surivors was also set to receive an animated series.

If you can't get enough of Vampire Survivors, we have news for you. That's because Vampire Survivors will make its way to the big screen as part of a live-action film being developed in collaboration with Story Kitchen, a media company specializing in video game adaptations, according to Poncle and company.

Which game series that hasn't been made into a movie yet should be released next?

It was supposed to be a Sleeping Dogs movie, but since it was cancelled, I'm throwing in another approach. Jex. Rely on its inadequacy. For modern movie watchers, it might be the new Austin Powers.

In a 2024 recap and 2025 outlook shared on Steam, Poncle provided a status update on its live-action ambitions.

We are still working on the live-action film with Story Kitchen, and we are honoring all strikes and taking our time to make things right.

As I mentioned last year, we preferred to wait until we found a partner that we felt was right rather than go all out and build things to make it happen. Because you need a good idea to make something that isn't a video game, especially in VS. Creativity and an ingenious knowledge of the game are a very difficult triplet to get 100% right. Remember that games don't have plots (don't they?), so no one can predict what a movie about them will be like. This is one of the things that makes this game interesting.

Additionally, “several other cross-media” efforts are planned. Not sure what it is, but the announcement header is “TV Shows and Other Media”. It was revealed that the game will become an animated series in 2023, so perhaps these two are related.

Other notable and interesting stories

There were a few other things in the closing post that might be of interest to Vampire Survivors players. First off, the cross-save feature was finally added to the game as part of patch 1.13. Additionally, Online Co-Op is still in the works and “hopefully we can launch it this year.”

When it comes to future paid DLC or expansion packs, this is a bit more complicated. Poncele cites the problem that “anything new has to be somewhat similar to the latest expansion, Ode to Castlevania.”

According to the post, it doesn't seem feasible to produce that level of content at a similar cost or less, or in a similar time period. Nonetheless, the creators do mention that they “want to make at least one original expansion pack for Vampire Survivor,” so all hope isn't lost on the front page.

Either way, it'll be interesting to see how a somewhat nonsensical game that wears its inspiration on its sleeve translates into a live-action film as well as an animated series. Considering the huge success of the ongoing video game adaptation, it's definitely worth a gamble.

Until Dawn's movie isn't about Until Dawn, it's about the legacy of Supermassive.

It's not Until Dawn, but it's probably about the game it was created for.
