Valve has finally bitten the bullet and started taking pre-orders for the Steam Machine. That said, it's finally revealed its hand and told us how much the console-PC hybrid will cost, and it turns out, as we all feared, it's quite expensive.
How much does a steam machine cost?
It's available for pre-order right now via Valve's Virtual Queue, and includes two models of the Steam Machine, each with varying amounts of storage. The bad news is that the smallest 512GB model also costs $1,049. Yes, that's the minimum you'll have to pay if you want to be the proud owner of a new Steam Machine when it comes out.
The worse news is that if you want more storage space in your Steam library, the price will naturally go up significantly. The 2TB model of the Steam Machine costs $1,349.
As expected, Valve appears to have saved money on the machine by selling the console without a Steam Controller. You can save $79 by choosing a bundle that includes the console and nothing else. The Steam Machine is compatible with other controllers, so buying a Steam Machine without the specified controller doesn't mean it will be useless.
However, this may be the only way to purchase a Steam Controller for a while. Because we believe the wait for the new device has seeped into early 2027.
No doubt this site will be difficult to access at the moment, so good luck if you want to.
