Reliable tech insider KelperL2 has revealed that the production cost of the PlayStation 6 has increased by at least $200 since his last report, bringing the total cost closer to $1,000.
As someone who has tried to buy quite a few nothing Recently, when it comes to gaming, you'll notice that the price of our beloved hobby has continued to increase over the past year. Due to global component shortages (which can mainly be attributed to AI data centers and their high requirements), all companies have steadily increased the prices of their products.
After nearly five years on the market, the current generation of consoles has become more expensive than ever, with some of the more powerful models coming dangerously close to $1,000. This has made the idea of next-gen consoles a major concern for consumers, and trusted insiders have given us an idea of just how bad things could get.
KeplerL2 says the PS6's bill of materials is nearly $1 million.
Another sign that the next generation needs to be pushed back.
Sony may not have made an official announcement about the PlayStation 6 yet, but trusted tech insider Kepler2 has given us plenty of information about the hardware, production schedule, and more. Earlier this year, they also reported that parts for the PS6 cost around $760. ridiculously Expensive.
For context, the Bill of Materials (BOM) refers to the manufacturing cost, not the retail price of the product.

It's okay if you don't buy a new console for a while.
PlayStation and Xbox will eventually release new consoles, so why not wait a few more years?
As ResetEra user RandomlyRandom67 points out, those somewhat reassuring numbers are no longer reality. In the same NeoGAF thread where the original costs were shared, KeplerL2 provided a worrying update on the PS6's production costs, revealing that they have risen by around $200 in the months since the first report.
If Insider's track record is accurate, the PlayStation 6's BOM is almost $1,000, and could rise further if parts shortages become more severe. PlayStation would either have to sell the console at a loss to keep it under that exorbitant price, or potentially charge more to make a profit on the console.
While this would have most of us thinking that next-gen could wait a little longer, KeplerL2 pointed out that it would be worse to delay if prices continue to rise, and that the specs have been locked in for so long that the consoles themselves can't be changed. There's basically nothing you can do about the cost except Sony releases it and hopes it stabilizes in the future.

I feel good about finally purchasing a PS5 Pro. And it's all thanks to GTA 6
Sony is right. Grand Theft Auto 6 is probably best played on PlayStation.
