The best types of roofs in Minecraft

Minecraft is a game that offers players a variety of experiences, but what it is most famous for is its prolific building mechanic. No matter your skill level or taste, you can create anything you can imagine, from a cozy little town to a working computer.

To develop serious building skills, you have to start somewhere, and most players start out in Minecraft by building a simple house. However, implementing a variety of roof designs can greatly improve your humble starter home, which will definitely wow your friends and other visitors to your server.

There are plenty of Minecraft tutorials. Where possible we've included links to videos to help you, but not all roof types have dedicated tutorial videos. Thankfully, you can also find compilation videos with crafters covering the different types.

A-frame

The A-frame is an iconic roofline created to prevent heavy snowfall on the roof in cold climates. The design consists of two slopes that start at the ground level and extend to a point. Its stylish and functional design will make your Minecraft home incredibly cozy.

If you want to build a house in one of Minecraft's snowy biomes, an A-Frame could be the perfect roof to build for the weather. You can also install a cozy little loft on a steeper part of the roof.

A gable roof is a very classic shape that most people think of when building a house in Minecraft. This design can be seen all over the world and consists of two slopes that meet at the top. Gable roofs give buildings a clean, harmonious finish and a timeless appearance that will suit almost any type of building.

It's not necessarily a design that will stand out from the crowd, but if you're looking to build a more complex roof, a gable design is a great place to start.

curved

If you are looking for a beautiful and elegant roof design, curved roofs are the best option. The design used a bow-shaped structure, giving the building an attractive aesthetic. The curved roof, reminiscent of a barn roof, is perfect for any building of your choice.

The curved design uses a combination of regular blocks, steps and slabs to achieve a relatively smooth appearance, so it may require a bit of work for inexperienced builders, but the end result is well worth it.

mono pitch

The flat roof is another simple design that goes a long way in elevating your Minecraft house, making it the perfect mid-range building. This modern roof consists of a single sloping pitch across the roof of the house.

A Salt Box roof is one of the funkiest designs you can use to finish one of your buildings, and once completed, it creates a truly unique home. The design is named after the containers used to store salt during colonial times and features two pitches that meet in an asymmetrical way on the sides of the building.

All you have to do is build the short side with a much steeper roof pitch using alternating stair pieces, then build the long, less steep side with regular blocks and slabs. This design will add a colorful flair to any property you see fit.

When you look at a butterfly roof, it's easy to see how it got its name because the roof line resembles the outline of a butterfly's wings. The butterfly design is a staple of modernist architecture and became popular in the mid-20th century.

This roof actually looks harder to build than it is. Because all you need is regular blocks and slabs and it looks really impressive. The butterfly roof will definitely be the talk of the town among the locals.

Claire Story

Clerestory has one of the most dramatic rooflines you can build, yet still maintains a nice level of simplicity. All you have to do is create two slopes of varying heights with a straight wall in between. Then the Clerestory is complete.

You can also add windows to the wall between the two roof surfaces for an additional design detail that will wow your guests. This will let in natural light during the day and add visual interest to the interior and exterior of your home.

Gambrell

The Gambrel roof is another cozy design full of character that will add a lot to your Minecraft build. The structure consists of two slopes on either side. That is, an upward slope leads to a steeper slope downward.

This type of roof is suitable for most large buildings, giving them a grand appearance. I mean, what could be more majestic than looming castle spires? You can also place this on a wizard tower for a mystical effect.

Next is the classic dome roof. This roof may not be the best option, but it works great in a variety of situations. First, the large dome shape may serve a practical purpose. Maximize building space directly under the roof.

Domes are also suitable for outdoor construction, such as the one shown above. The dome actually gives it an elegant look and feel out of place. Domes are also relatively simple to make. There are many dome shape calculators online that you can use to make sure you are perfectly rounded.

Lastly, there is the pagoda roof style. This classic style is reminiscent of East Asian architecture with a blocky Minecraft spin. There are countless ways to create this pagoda-style roof, and there are just as many tutorials out there.

The curved sections of the roof look very pleasing when made in Minecraft. This roof type is especially good for large buildings as it allows more blocks to be used to create perfect symmetrical curves.
