With just over a week left until Sonic 3 hits theaters, Sega and Paramount have started promoting the trilogy. This included 12 hours of Sonic-themed giveaways throughout Wednesday afternoon and evening, with prizes including plush toys, t-shirts, and a very ugly Christmas sweater to remind us how far we've come.
Wearing aesthetically pleasing Christmas-themed sweaters has become a holiday tradition, but we can't imagine we've ever seen one this ugly. Included in Paramount's promotional giveaway was the Ugly Sonic Sweater, a jumper featuring the original design from the Blue Blur movie version.

For those of you who have forgotten the Ugly Sonic series, and whose brains have intentionally erased it from your memory, a trailer ahead of the hedgehog's big screen debut showed the world what the CGI Sonic would look like in live action. To put it simply, it was terrible. It was so terrible and the backlash against it was so fierce that Paramount delayed the film's release in order to overhaul Sonic's design, with the end result being a much more palatable one because it actually looks like Sonic.

Five years later, it's nice to know that Paramount can make fun of the Sonic design itself and the design that almost ruined the adaptation before it was even released. The sweater reveal also includes footage from the original version of the movie, which serves as an unwelcome reminder that the OG design for Sonic's hands is just as bad as his face. The sweater reveal is our first look at Sonic paired with a screaming donut rod and a shot of the original design with a tranquilizer dart.
When it comes to sweaters, it's not just the big, old image of Sonic's face from the original movie that makes it ugly. The color scheme and apparent integration into the stretched Ugly Sonic silhouette further highlights the fact that this is one of the worst holiday jumpers ever made.
Even before the trailer was released in 2019, glimpses of Sonic's legs had fans fearing the worst. The implication was that Paramount had made the hedgehog look too human.
Unfortunately, if you're just learning about the existence of this jumper, you've already missed your chance to get one. Paramount's 12 Hour Giveaway is already over. This means the lucky owner of what appears to be a unique Ugly Sonic Christmas jumper has already been decided. The same goes for chili dog flavored candy canes.
