The day before Sonic 3 hits theaters, Paramount Pictures confirmed that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is in the works and is targeting a release sometime in 2027.
There's been plenty of teasing, leaks, and speculation about whether Crush 40's Live and Learn will make an appearance, but Sonic the Hedgehog's third film is set to hit theaters tomorrow, December 20th. Initial reviews and impressions were very promising. With the first and second films doing so well, it seems like a big win is guaranteed.

I can't wait to see a kid get murdered in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
Maria will be completely exhausted in the upcoming trilogy.
That seems to be the train of thought that Paramount is on board, and literally a day before Sonic 3 was released, it was confirmed that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is already in development. Not only that, but there's also a spring 2027 release window, meaning it won't be too long before we find out what's coming next.
Sonic the Hedgehog 4 confirmed for spring 2027 release
Variety reports the not-so-surprising news that Sonic will be making more movies. Variety reports that Paramount has confirmed that the studio is currently “preparing” Sonic 4 and is targeting a spring 2027 release, just over two years away. Third movie released. That suggests a lot.
Beyond that, Paramount has been very tight-lipped about Sonic 4 and what it will entail. Jeff Fowler has worked on all three films so far and appears to be on a Sonic winning streak, so it's likely he'll return for another one, even if it hasn't been confirmed yet. The real question is whether Keanu Reeves' Shadow and Jim Carrey's Eggman will also appear in the sequel.
Thanks to a big leak, Sonic 3's post-credits footage has already started making the rounds on the internet. If you're not afraid of spoilers, you can check it out here, but like the post-credits scenes in the first and second films, it gives you a very good idea of what the next film will be about.
