Dog Logan is Wolverine's secret half-brother and his first rival.

Before there was Sabertooth, there was Logan the dog.

Wolverine really can't seem to catch a break, and Logan the dog is one of the many thorns in his adamantium-infused side. Dog Logan is Wolverine's secret half-brother. They share the same father, Thomas Logan, the trustee of the Howlett Estate. The blood they shared may not have been their priority, but over the centuries a friendship once shared was, until it turned to blood.

The Howlett Estate was attacked by an angry Thomas Logan, and as a young boy, Wolverine killed the man in a fit of rage, leaving Dog Logan mentally and physically scarred. 100 years later, Dog Logan is tasked with hunting down his half-brother to prove who the best Logan is, showing just how messed up Logan's family tree really is.

Sabertooth is not Wolverine's brother, but he treats him like Wolverine (in some ways).

Sabertooth's hatred for Wolverine runs deeper than blood

Sabretooth and Wolverine are not brothers, which has been a common misconception about the characters ever since. X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) hit theaters. In the 20th Century Fox Marvel movies, the two are literally flesh and blood brothers. But the relationship in Marvel Comics has become much more complicated since Wolverine reportedly killed Sabretooth's brother over 100 years ago.

Sabretooth hunts Wolverine every year for revenge, making his life a literal living hell. Sabretooth's birthday traditions include killing Wolverine's lover or mutilating anyone who gets close to him, finishing in a bloody fight that takes weeks to recover from. Although not brothers, their bond runs much deeper than any family tree.

Marvel-15 - The Greatest Comic Book Villains of All Time, Ranked

Marvel: Ranking the most powerful comic book villains of all time.

The world of Marvel Comics is a harsh place where villains are constantly causing destruction.

Folkbern Logan is an 11th century ancestor who witnessed the Apocalypse and Thor.

Wolverine isn't the first Logan to fight Thor

Folkbern Logan, one of Wolverine's ancestors, served as a guard in 11th-century London, England. Folkbern's appearance in the comics is very brief, he only appears on a few pages. Uncanny Avengers #6 (April 2013), but he is arguably Wolverine's ancestor.

In 1013 AD, Fokbern was a pagan who did not believe in any gods. That was until the Horsemen of the Apocalypse arrived. Folkbern prayed for a guardian, and the one who answered was the mighty Thor, the god of thunder. Other guards witnessed Thor's power, and one simply responded:Folkbern Logan… you are the best at what you choose to do. But what you do is not so kind.“This is a direct reference to Wolverine's self-reference”I am the best at what I do…

Wolverine's family tree is made up of clones and unknown individuals.

Clones, natural sons, and even unknown hybrids make up Wolverine's legacy as a father.

Wolverine has lived for centuries and fallen in love countless times. Tragedy always seems to bring Logan down, but he still fathers children who have inherited his mutant genes. Even without a normal pregnancy through birth, Logan is still the father of a few clones worth mentioning.

  • Laura Kinney (clone/daughter)

  • Gabby Kinney (Clone's Clone/Daughter)

  • Akihirio / Daken (son)

  • Gunhawk (son)

  • Top Fist (Son)

  • cannon foot (son)

  • Shadow Stalker (daughter)

  • Firefighting Knife (Daughter)

In fact, the final names on the list we were shown (Gunhawk, Saw Fist, Cannon Foot, Shadowstalker, and Fire Knives) are part of the Mongrels, a group of bastards that Logan unknowingly fathered over the centuries. Each has been manipulated into hating his father, and the Red Right Hand's leaders' one goal is to make his life a living hell. Wolverine even killed them in battle, showing once again that his family tree is, oh, so messy.

Romulus is Wolverine's (potentially) oldest ancestor

Romulus controlled Wolverine's entire life as a puppet with his immortal cunning.

For whatever reason, everyone with Wolverine blood in their veins seems to hate him. Romulus is another of these characters, and his identity adds further complexity and mystery to Wolverine's canon.

Romulus is clearly related to Wolverine in some respects, as they have many physical similarities and mutant abilities. Romulus showed just how far he would take the Wolverine gimmick by claiming to be a Lupine, a tribe of wild humans that evolved from wolves. Romulus, like Sabretooth, was scheming behind the scenes to intervene in Wolverine's life, albeit with a setting that extends beyond ancient Rome. Whether Romulus is actually Wolverine's founding ancestor is anyone's guess, but even if he's a compulsive liar and villain, he makes a pretty good case.
