When it comes to new IPs, Capcom absolutely nailed it with Pragmata. Not only is it receiving rave reviews from critics, it's also being highly regarded by fans, with overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam. But if that's not enough, perhaps comparing it to Capcom's other games might paint a clearer picture.
Resident Evil 4 Remake is the highest-rated Capcom game on Steam among the many hits the studio has put out over the past few years. With 96.12% positive reviews and a peak concurrent player count of 168,191, it is the studio's most successful game by many metrics. If you're wondering how well Pragmata has done, it's not far from the top.
Ranked 7th on SteamDB's list of the studio's best relaxing games on Steam, Pragmata has only Resident Evil 2, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy, Resident Evil Requiem, Devil May Cry 5, and Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective above it (thanks, GamesRadar). These are three legacy IPs and two cult hits. For a new IP, it's really fantastic.
With 94.37% positive reviews, it's only about 2% behind the already impressive Resident Evil 4 Remake. What's even more impressive is that they did so with a much smaller player base. This ranks above Resident Evil 7 and Village, proving that you don't have to be a well-established IP to be successful.
At the rate things are going, we can expect the ratings to rise even higher in the coming days as more people play the game. As of this writing, it's already higher than initial reports, and there's no reason why it can't continue.
In TheGamer's review of Pragmata, Jade Kind said, “It's got big ambitions, big hearts, and two big, beautiful characters who drive a galactic adventure like no other. Cheese and clichés aside, Pragmata is a rare triumph.”
