pokemon Players know that every monster in this franchise has six different stats (or stats). hit point, attack, special attack, defense, special defense, and speed. These parameters interact with each other to define exactly how well each fantastic creature will perform in combat. Pokémon with high Speed and Attack can become Physical Sweepers, while Pokémon with high Defense and Special Defense can become Barriers.
Pokémon generally have evenly distributed base stat totals, but in several instances Game Freak has given some of them one good stat and nothing more. Whether because it matches their respective lore or for balanced reasons, the following eight Pokémon are the most infamous examples of this strange phenomenon in franchise history.
Wobbuffett – HP
It's a living punching bag.
- HP: 190
- Basic Stat Total: 405
Needless to say, odd stat distributions are usually reserved for gimmick Pokémon that are clearly designed to fill a specific role in battle. One of the best known examples is: Wobbuffett. Introduced in Generation 2, this Pokémon is based on Sandbag, a strange concept reflected in its base stats.
HP has a total of 190, so this is the only good parameter for Wobbuffet. This means that it is the Pokemon with the third highest HP in the entire series. However, this makes a lot of sense considering Wobbuffet lands as many direct hits as possible and uses moves like Counter or Mirror Court to redirect them back to his opponent.
Ninjask – speed
A lightning fast ninja (no less…)
- speed: 160
- Basic Stat Total: 456
As the name suggests, Ninjask Based on both Cicada and Ninja. This interesting concept is perfectly reflected in its base stats, which boast a speed stat of 160, the second highest speed stat in the entire franchise, and make this little bug faster than most legendary Pokémon.
But that's the problem with Ninjask. Speed is the only outstanding performance in combat. It's not strong enough to deal enough damage, nor is it bulky enough to withstand many direct hits. As a result, the most commonly used strategy is to land as many attacks as quickly as possible before they are inevitably broken by the moves of a powerful opponent.
Rampardos – Attack
It is a work worthy of the title ‘Ultimate Spear’.
- attack: 165
- Basic Stat Total: 495
Game Freak has done some very interesting work with Generation 4 Fossil Pokémon. Because both represent the competition between the Ultimate Spear (an unstoppable force) and the Unbreakable Wall (an immovable object). As a result of this dichotomy, Bastiodon has very high defense and special defense; Rampardos It only has good attack power and nothing more.
Rampardos is the definition of a “glass cannon” as his attack stat of 165 allows him to unleash devastating physical attacks on his opponents. However, it is faster and more likely to be overpowered by almost anything with a balanced stat distribution. This is a real shame, as it has a solid design and original concept, but its questionable stat distribution has completely undermined its combat capabilities since launch.
Agron – Defense
Could have been a decent barrier (if it weren't for terrible typing)
- defense: 180
- Basic Stat Total: 530
It's not surprising to know that. Agron Being literally a giant monster covered in steel armor, it has the highest defense stats in the entire franchise. With a total of 180, Aggron can defend against most physical attacks, but since he lacks a lot of special defense, he will be taken down by very effective special moves.
Aggron could be a solid defensive wall, but it has one major flaw. That's typing. Steel + Rock sounds like the perfect combination in theory, but this Pokémon gives you a double weakness to both Fighting and Ground, two of the most prominent physical types in the series. Game Freak must have known this, as Mega Aggron loses its Rock typing and gains 50 more points in Defense, ultimately making it a much more effective barrier.
Chansey and Blissey – HP
Known for having the highest HP stats in the entire franchise.
- HP: 250 / 255
- Basic Stat Total: 450 / 540
both Chansey And its evolution, blissis specifically designed to fulfill the role of a healer in combat, so naturally you need to be able to perform as many attacks as possible to refill your teammates' HP in time. Chansey's total of 250 is quite impressive in itself. Especially considering that this not-fully-evolved Pokémon can wield Eviolite to boost its defense.
Despite this, Blissey is the best healer Pokémon as it has the highest HP stat in the entire Pokémon franchise with a total of 255. Blissey's health bar is so large in the game that long-time fans of the series have made numerous jokes about how it can take nearly a minute for a player to deplete her health with a very effective move.
Xurkitree – special attack
This bizarre Ultra Beast is definitely a force to be reckoned with
- special attack: 173
- Basic Stat Total: 570
All Ultra Beasts are designed to specialize in one area, such as attack, defense, or speed, and most have at least two good stats, but UB-03 Lightning is better known. Xurkitree — Notorious for having extremely high special attack stats and nothing more.
With a total of 173, Xurkitree boasts the 6th highest special attack stat in the franchise (4th if Mega Evolved Pokemon are not counted). This certainly means you can unleash powerful special moves like Thunderbolt or Energy Ball. It is also one of the few Pokémon that can learn Tail Glow. Tail Glow allows you to increase your already high special attack stat by 2 levels in just one turn.
Regis – Special Defense
Classic legendary Pokémon with questionable stat distribution
-
Special defense: 200
-
Base Stat Total: 580
Legendary Pokémon must be powerful and durable (according to the series' lore). So whenever one of your Pokémon has poor stat distribution, it's a real shame. for example, Regis (One of the members of the legendary trio of giants from Generation 3) has the second-highest special defense stat in the franchise, with a total of 200.
Naturally, this sounds good on paper as it theoretically allows Regice to withstand powerful special attacks, but due to its relatively low HP and defense statistics, a fairly strong physical attack is enough to take it down in just a few seconds. Because of this, Regice has always been considered the worst legendary giant in the series and is literally non-existent on the competitive scene.
Deoxys (Speed Form) – Speed
This shapeshifting legendary monster can move at extreme speeds
- speed: 180
- Basic Stat Total: 600
deoxys It is a legendary Pokémon known for its ability to switch between four forms: normal, attack, defense, and speed. Most of them have two or more high stats that make them powers worth considering, with the exception of Speed Forme (e.g. Attack Forme has good attack, special attack, and speed).
As the name suggests, the Deoxys Speed Forme has a speed stat of 180. This means it's officially the fastest Pokémon in the entire franchise. The other five parameters are not terrible, but they are weaker compared to the other three forms, making it an underwhelming legendary Pokémon to use in battle. After all, Attack Forme Deoxys has a speed stat of 150 points, so there's no need to use a sub-optimal Speed Forme after all.
