Boss fights with these Rogue Mega Evolutions are some of the most difficult battles in the game, requiring players to be particularly strategic about which Pokémon and moves they bring, especially if they don't want a long, boring fight.
Rogue Mega Evolution battles are larger than typical Pokémon battles, and are a great way to showcase new designs. Pokemon Legends: ZA. Most of the previously established Mega Evolution pokemon game returns Legendary: ZABut you can also discover new designs. The new Mega Evolution designs range from the downright bizarre, like the leggy Mega Starmie and the round Mega Victreebel, to the rather striking, like the golden Mega Skarmory and the glowing Mega Malamar.
Pokemon Legends: ZA Shakes Up Battle

But the twist is Pokemon Legends: ZA It features a real-time combat system, ditching the tried-and-true turn-based combat the franchise has relied on for years. As usual, your Pokémon has access to four moves in any given battle. Z.A. Put everything on a cooldown timer. Type matchups are still the most important factor in Pokémon battles, but players should also keep in mind the Pokémon's location, how long it takes to execute a move, and whether it would be better to wait for one move's cooldown timer instead of wasting time using another. Pokemon Legends: ZA's combat system is fun, and removes some of the boring elements of turn-based combat that can sometimes get bogged down by status effects. There were strict rules governing mega-evolution in Pokémon battles, where players could only mega-evolve one Pokémon per battle. Whenever the player stores enough Mega Energy, they can click the right stick, and Mega Evolution is possible as long as there is a Pokémon and the corresponding stone that enables it. Being able to Mega Evolve multiple times in a battle can sometimes trivialize certain encounters, but it adds an extra layer of strategy to the game's tougher battles, as players must be wise about which Pokémon they choose to Mega Evolve and when they want to succeed.
One downside to putting such a big focus on Mega Evolutions is that it can feel like slots are wasted when used on Pokémon that can't Mega Evolve. One of my favorite Pokémon is Arbok, but I ultimately couldn't justify keeping Arbok in my party if I wanted to have the most effective team to fight Rogue Megas and higher level trainers. Although you won't get the benefits that a proper Mega Evolution would give you, Arbok and other Pokémon in the game that can't Mega Evolve can still utilize Mega Energy through Plus Moves. Plus Moves are more powerful versions of attacks that deal significantly increased damage in exchange for Mega Energy. While saving Mega Energy to Mega Evolve Pokémon is much more efficient and makes much more sense, I appreciate that at least some consideration was put into keeping Pokémon relevant without Mega Evolution.
Pokemon Legends: ZA's Multiplayer Mode
Pokemon Legends: ZA features ranked multiplayer where players battle each other for special rewards. For Mega Stone X and Y The seasons in this mode have fixed starters, which is very unfortunate. The mod itself is serviceable, but it's clearly an afterthought compared to the rest of the game.
In addition to covering Rogue Mega Evolutions Pokemon Legends: ZA Players must also fight to increase their ranks in ZA Royale. With the game set entirely in Lumiose City, ZA Royale gives you the opportunity to: Pokemon Legends: ZA Players can engage in trainer battles, which typically unfold across multiple paths. ZA Royale battles take place at night in specific sections of the city, and the ultimate goal is to earn enough points to earn a challenger ticket. This allows players to battle those ahead of them and rise through the ranks (from Z to A). Pokemon Legends: ZA is filled with over 100 side quests to complement the rich main quest line. Combined with the always rewarding task of catching everything and research challenges to unlock special moves, there's plenty of content to keep here. pokemon Fans were engrossed for dozens of hours.

Pokemon Legends: ZA It's technically a Switch 1 game and not a native Switch 2 release, so there are elements held back by older hardware. Still, it's hard not to be disappointed by the graphics. Pokémon are bright and colorful, and the novelty of seeing them never gets old (even something as simple as a Magikarp jumping out of the water and landing on the bridge in front of me feels magical), but the world they inhabit has definitely had some corners cut.
The graphics and audio in Pokémon Legends: ZA are underwhelming.
Lumiose City doesn't feel like a city. Most NPCs are standing around and buildings are flat with repeating textures. The Wild Zone looks better thanks to detailed touches like wild Pokémon running around and grass blowing in the wind, but the city leaves a lot to be desired. The concept of setting a Pokémon game entirely in a centralized location like a city isn't a bad idea, but Legendary: ZA I can't quite grasp the concept.
The bigger problem is Pokemon Legends: ZAEven more serious than the graphics is the audio. Pokemon Legends: ZA Recycles many old sound effects from before. pokemon The game may be fine and nostalgic, but Pokemon is “crying” and desperately needs an update. Pokemon Legends: ZAThe complete and utter lack of voice acting is also distracting and downright odd in 2025. Pokemon Legends: ZA This is the kind of game where you might be fine without voice acting for most dialogue, but without voice acting for the more important cutscenes, it can become unnecessarily awkward.
Pokemon Legends: ZA Even though it's technically a Switch 1 game, it could have done much better with the graphics and audio, but at least the performance is much better than this. Scarlett and Violet. Especially for Nintendo Switch 2, Pokemon Legends: ZA Delivers solid performance. I didn't experience any technical issues or weird graphical issues while playing the game. It's a much more refined experience than the last mainline one. pokemon The game and its points are very much appreciated.
I've racked up about 22 hours of credits in Pokemon Legends: ZA, but that's without doing roughly half of the side missions first.
