We spoke to Pockerpair at this year's Tokyo Game Show to discuss the game's success, 'dead game' claims, and future plans.
The update was highly anticipated, with players coming back in droves, resulting in Palworld's highest Steam player count since early June of this year.
The Palworld Feybreak update saw a huge surge in players.
Palworld's numbers have been declining over the past few months. While still impressive, the game's average player count dropped to around 15,000 in November. After a decline in May and June and an uptick in July, player count declined each month.
However, the latest update to the game seems to have given the game a huge boost. Last night, Palworld hit a peak concurrent player count of 134,747, according to SteamDB, the highest number since June 1, when about 143,000 players jumped into the game.
Although it's a far cry from when Palworld launched, the game still has over 2 million players. But this is a step in the right direction for developer Pocket pair.
Last night, Palworld recorded 134,747 concurrent users, the highest since June 1.
The new free update adds tons of new content for players to enjoy. Along with the Terraria crossover, Feybreak adds a new island, new friends, including a dangerous predator friend, more resources, two new mechanics, an increased level cap, and more. You can find the full patch notes here.
This new update means the Pocket pair is ending a tumultuous year on a high. After garnering a huge number of players and significant critical response, Pocket pair was unceremoniously sued by Nintendo and The Pokemon Company for using a similar mechanic to Poke Ball. As previously predicted by the attorney, the mechanic has been changed, but the hearing has not yet been held.

Palworld has been described as a Pokémon with guns, and it's hard to argue with that. The game is very similar in nature to the Pokemon formula, where you have to catch and work with monsters called Pals. But there are important differences. Palworld is rooted in multiplayer, and unlike Pokémon, Palworld has guns.
