After defeating Auri and Soryong on Sunreach Island, you can proceed with the main quest until the Arm Tamers capture Pantalus. Next, head to the world tree and watch a cutscene where the giant Pal helps you access another area.
The World Tree is a separate map that you can explore at your leisure before heading towards the next boss. While exploring, you can go to the southern region and catch a small dragon if you wish. Level it up and increase its stats at the Statue of Power if you plan to use it in upcoming battles.
