One Piece Sets Straw Hat Pirates of the Davy Clan

Officially introduced in one piece Episode 1159, September 8, 2025, The Davy Clan is a legendary group from the Void Century era. It is believed that long ago, the Davy Clan ruled the world of One Piece with Davy D. Jones as its king. At the head of the Davy Clan was Davy Jones, known as one of the most famous figures in the history of the One Piece world.

The Davy Clan's influence in the West Blue was very evident in the Elbaf Arc, and Blackbeard is said to be the last survivor. However, a fellow Straw Hat pirate may have an important connection to the clan, and this person is none other than Dead Bones Brook, the musician who is the focus of the ongoing Kingdom of Esperia flashbacks.

Why Brooke and Reuben Might Be From the Davy Clan

Straw Hat Pirate musician Brook has officially joined Monkey D. Luffy. one piece Episode 489 titled “The 8th Member” was released in the 13th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump on February 25, 2008. Since then, Brook has been an integral part of Luffy's group, helping him in any way possible. When Brook was first introduced to us, his past was revealed to be tied to the Rumba Pirates. Fifty-two years ago, these sailors sailed to the Grand Line and ultimately perished. Brook was resurrected by the power of Yomiyomi no Mi consumed at an unknown time, and became the only member of the crew to be resurrected. Following this resurrection, Brook continued to be lost in the Florian Triangle until the Straw Hat Pirates eventually rescued him and brought him aboard.

“Thriller Bark once came from our hometown of West Blue. Perhaps they will rest well on our home soil.” — Brook explains the importance of West Blue.

Brooke's backstory revealed in the Thriller Bark Arc spans chapters 486-488, and while this backstory is incredible, it doesn't really address Brooke's original past. The Elbaf episode largely shed light on Brook's backstory starting with episode 1183 of Shueisha Weekly Shonen Jump's 26th issue on May 25, 2026. In the Kingdom of Esperia flashback, Brook's past is truly revealed for the first time, and it becomes clear that he is a homeless boy with no parents and no name.

“Father, mother, brothers, we are all starving and our bones and flesh are exhausted. How am I alive? I eat toads to survive!” — Brook briefly mentions his family in One Piece Chapter 1184.

As an orphan, Brooke couldn't do anything for him. That said, one thing that's immediately noticeable about his character design is his similarity to the child version of Marshall D. Teech, who officially appeared in God Valley in Chapter 1159 of One Piece, September 8, 2025, WSJ Issue #41.

The similarities between Brook and Teech are somewhat uncanny. They both have Afro hairstyles and their facial features, including lips, eyes, and eyelashes, are similar, so at first glance, they almost look like brothers. Another interesting similarity between Brook and Blackbeard is that they are both from West Blue. While Blackbeard resided in God Valley with the remaining members of the Davy Clan, Brook came from Esperia, another kingdom on the same sea, who met the same fate. Brook's parents and his siblings are hidden from Eiichiro Oda, adding fuel to the fire that links him to the mysterious Davey Clan of the One Piece world.

In fact, Brook isn't the only member who might belong to the Davy Clan. Just one look at King Reuven of Esperia and you'll see that he too is very similar to members of the Davy Clan of God Valley. King Reuben was a powerful ruler of West Blue, and his appearance looks very similar to Rox D. Zebek, who was officially revealed in Episode 1162 of One Piece, as well as Rox's parents.

There appears to be a strong influence of Clan Davy members on West Blue, which is why so many islands have disappeared over the years. This may also explain why Imu sent the Marines and the World Government to destroy Esperia and why the Celestial Dragon reached the island a long time ago, as confirmed in One Piece Chapter 1185 of Shueisha Weekly Shonen Jump Issue 29, June 14, 2025.

Why the Davy Clan dispersed like the D Clan

Davy Clan Scattered D Clan One Piece

The Davey Clan is scattered throughout the world of One Piece, with only a few survivors. The majority of this tribe lived in God Valley, and 38 years ago they came to an end. After the death of Rocks D. Xebec at the hands of Garling, the entire island sank to the bottom of the sea. This means that the Rocks sank as well as all the families that were there. The only people to escape from God Valley were Eris, who was originally from another clan, and Teech, who became the last survivor of the Davy Clan.

“Aren’t non-member countries turning into lawless places? I heard that another West Blue country has been destroyed!” — People of Esperia, One Piece Episode 1185

That said, it's not out of the ordinary to consider that a Davy population has existed on the West Blue for centuries, with some members hiding out on other islands, and that Esperia could easily have been one of those places. This is especially meaningful considering that Esperia was destroyed and wiped off the map, as Brook confirms. one piece Episode 1183 was officially released in the 26th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump on May 25, 2026. The scattering of Clan Davie members across the world makes a lot of sense, especially considering that they were persecuted and hunted by the government. Perhaps Brook's family had strong ties to Clan Davey and hid in Esperia, eventually giving birth to Brook, who may have been from the same clan.

Brook and Blackbeard could maintain an important connection in the final saga

Brook Blackbeard Connection Final Saga One Piece

Besides the similarities in appearance and place of origin, there is something else that connects Brook and Blackbeard. First of all, Brook and Blackbeard have similarly named Devil Fruits. Brook has Yomi Yomi no Mi and Blackbeard has Yami Yami no Mi. The previous Devil Fruit allows Brook to return from death itself, while Blackbeard's Devil Fruit allows him to control the darkness. Both abilities are connected in some way to the darkness of the underworld, which is an interesting connection between the two.

Their sponsors are also somewhat connected and look very similar. For Blackbeard, it was none other than his father, Rocks. For Brooke it was King Reuben. Additionally, both characters share a very similar and interesting connection to whales. Brook formed a relationship with Laboon, who set sail with the Straw Hats, while Blackbeard had none other than Whitebeard, who sailed on another whale, Moby Dick, completing another clever connection between the two by Eiichiro Oda.

In Brook and Blackbeard, Eiichiro Oda appears to be potentially portraying two sides of the same coin. While they were both persecuted, Brook grew up in peace, while Blackbeard grew up amid fire and anger towards the entire world. Perhaps a meeting between Brook and Blackbeard could take place in the future and their birth within the Davy line could be discussed, which would certainly be a surprising development for all fans to enjoy.
