one piece Chapter 1182 is significant to Sanji's character for several reasons. Previously, in episode 1180 of One Piece, which was officially released in the 21st issue of Weekly Shonen Jump on April 20, 2026, Sanji faced the king of the world, Nerona Imu. He launched a powerful Ifrit Jambe attack but it was easily blocked. Imu retaliated with a black flame kick of his own, completely beating him up in the process. Most fans thought Sanji was completely defeated, but Chapter 1182 proved otherwise. It was clear to us that Sanji had not passed out, as Saint Killingham confirmed, but was still conscious. Sanji was low on energy, but he got up and went after Killingham again, knowing that he would once again target the children of Elbaph.
With Zoro going after the Super Sommers, Sanji is now set to face off against Super Killingham in Chapter 1183 and beyond, which sets up an exciting battle and a major power-up we've been patiently waiting to see for nearly a decade. This power-up is in the colors of the Maharaja. Sanji with the colors of a great king was officially teased by series creator Eiichiro Oda almost a year ago in episode 1152 of the series.
In this chapter, Sanji officially states that he felt that he had the colors of the Supreme King within him, namely the Haki of the Conqueror. However, Scoper Gavan ignored him, saying that Zoro seemed to be more accustomed to using the colors of the Great King. Although most fans treated this as a gag on the surface, Eiichiro Oda can be seen using a special dust marker in the third panel of page 5 of Chapter 5. This shows part of the conversation between Gaban and Sanji being cut off, setting up a major reveal for the latter regarding Supreme King Haki's potential power.

Why Sanji unlocking the Conqueror's Haki is important in the Elbaph Arc
Many fans wonder why Sanji needed the power of Conqueror Haki in the first place. The answer is formally presented by Oda throughout the various chapters of the Elbaph arc. in one piece In episode 1149, which was officially released in the 26th issue of Weekly Shonen Jump on May 26, 2025, Scoper Gavan was seen fighting Saint Somers. He was seen using the strength of the Haki King to cut him down. Gavan was Roger's left arm and one of the Pirate King's wings, and he was the wielder of the High King's power. This was a similar role to Sanji from the Straw Hat Pirates.
“He’s on par with Gol D. Roger, Silvers Rayleigh, and Scopper Gaban!” — Oimo and Kashi, One Piece Episode 1139
This is exactly the standard expected of Sanji, and we know that he is more than capable of performing this role and may even surpass Gavan's level. Therefore, it is essential for Sanji to unlock the power of the Great King. Moreover, Scoper Gavan clearly stated in One Piece Chapter 1152 and later One Piece Chapter 1170 that utilizing the color of the Great King is the Paladin Immortal's only weakness.
“Give him enough blows and we can put him out of commission. If these guys have a weakness, it's against us, who can inject the colors of the Supreme King into our attacks!” — Scoper Gavan from One Piece Episode 1070
Sanji's lack of Conqueror's Haki means he won't be able to win against the Paladins or the Five Elders in future series. Oda officially prepared for battle against Saint Killingham. The only way he can win this fight, and all upcoming fights against Yonko-level enemies, is to awaken the Conqueror's Haki. That's why this fight after Chapter 1183 of One Piece will mark the beginning of a spectacular run for his character and give him access to one of the most coveted abilities in the entire series.

How Sanji's New King Haki Power-Up Takes Him to Yonko Levels
Sanji unlocking the power of Conqueror Haki is what we've been waiting for since Chapter 832 of the Whole Cake Island arc, which was officially released on July 16, 2016. It has been officially confirmed that Sanji belongs to the royal bloodline of North Blue and that his father, Vinsmoke Judge, is of royal bloodline. Sanji has the blood of a king, and he is also the conqueror of North Blue, having once defeated four kings in a large-scale battle of North Blue. The conquerors of Vinsmoke go beyond Jersey, as the history of the Kingdom of Germa 300 years ago confirms that they ruled the North Blue for 66 days.
“It was the conquest of four countries and the defeat of four kings of North Blue at once!” — Reiju, One Piece Episode 832
All rulers are given the colors of the Supreme King, especially if they are combatants. This already established Sanji's Conqueror's Haki abilities ten years ago. Since then, we have been patiently waiting for him to awaken this power, and after all this waiting, Elbaf's pinnacle moment has arrived. Sanji is expected to be the first to utilize this new ability and then coat his body with it to evolve the power of his flames and kicks, and beyond that he can slow down the regenerative abilities of the Paladin and the Five Elders.
With his newly awakened powers, Sanji will not only become strong enough to defeat the Paladin Killingham, but will also gain enough power to rival the Yonko and Admirals of the One Piece universe. The Straw Hat Pirates only need Yonko level Luffy to conquer the Grand Line. Luffy's Wings, Zoro, and Sanji should be Yonko level, as should Rayleigh and Gaban, and Elbaph will have them both officially attain this power level.
