A 27-year-old man has been arrested in Japan for sending a bomb threat to Nintendo. These threats are said to have been sent through the mail, with one letter saying he had already planted bombs around his office.
As Automaton reported, Japanese media has not identified a suspect and is investigating his potential motives. This comes after a similar incident in 2023 where another individual sent a bomb threat to Nintendo over complaints about Splatoon 3.
No bombs were found on Nintendo after the threat was made
The threat was reported to the police on March 16 and an investigation began. It is reported that no explosives were found on Nintendo property.
Despite this, Nintendo allegedly received a letter threatening to use explosives on the office. The messages included “I will blow you all up,” “My plan cannot be thwarted,” and “I have already planted several bombs.”
According to local reports, the individual admitted to the charges. The motive is under investigation and has not been released at this time.
It hasn't been that long since the last bomb threat to Nintendo as we know it. This also happened in Japan, where another 27-year-old, Kenshin Kazama, threatened Nintendo for his loss in Splatoon 3. These threats were made in 2023, and several live events were halted due to safety concerns before Kazama was arrested in 2024.
The man mentioned Splatoon 3 for Nintendo Switch and said, “I sent the message because I was stressed while playing the game.” “I was frustrated because I kept losing.” His message would specifically reference this story, including stating that Nintendo would “regret bringing such a crappy game into this world.”
Kazama's threats were made through an online form on Nintendo's website and threatened both Nintendo fans and employees. It remains to be seen if there are any similarities between this incident and recent events.
Nintendo has not commented on this new investigation as of this writing. Currently, the name of the suspect involved in this incident has not been revealed, and it is unclear what charges he has admitted to.
