N Plus Infinity Times Two was released on Developer Day.

Metanet Software, developer of the iconic N Games, has announced N Plus Infinity Times Two, a new multiplayer-focused game in the series scheduled for release in 2027.

If you, like me, were lucky enough to grow up during the golden age of Xbox Live Arcade, you're probably familiar with the N series, which started out as Flash games but made a name for itself with the N+. After 2008's Masochore platformer became an XBLA classic, we got a sequel in 2015 that further polished the series formula, N++.

Now that it's been 10 years since the last proper N game (which actually received a 10th anniversary update a while ago), everyone is wondering what developer Metanet Software will do next. Naturally, I'm sticking with N, but the next game in the series goes in a very different but very interesting multiplayer direction.

The next N game is N Plus Infinity Times Two and it goes all in on multiplayer.

Don't worry. There's a co-op mode if you want to maintain at least one friendship.

A multiplayer match is underway in N Plus Infinity Times Two.

At today's Developer Day Showcase, Metanet Software officially announced N Plus Infinity Times Two, the series' first truly multiplayer-centric game and its next game, scheduled for release in 2027. Previous N games have had multiplayer components utilizing precise platforming, but Infinity Times Two is the first to go all-in on this.

Infinity Times Two features five online and local game modes, including Trials and Co-op (reworked from the previous game) and a new version of Racing called Rocket Murder Time. As the name suggests, the race in that mode ends with the player being able to fire a rocket launcher at anyone unlucky enough to be behind them.

Two new game modes are planned for Infinity, including One-Up, where players must outperform each other in an elimination contest, and Team Tag, where Ninjas must outrun and jump Hunters to see who can survive the longest. And of course, it's all topped off with N's signature style and powerful soundtrack. Otherwise it would be a crime.

I was able to attend an in-person preview of Infinity before it was officially revealed, and it's actually coming along very nicely. Most of N can be played as single player as well as multiplayer. do It's a perfect fit for the series, especially if given time and attention. I'm especially excited for Team Tag, as it seems like a sure-fire way to make the most of N's perfectly annoying gameplay and ruin friendships.

You'll notice that the N Plus Infinity Times Two has a slightly different naming convention since it doesn't have a symbol, and that's a very intentional choice. Metanet said it was so difficult to find N+ and N++ on digital stores that putting the actual words in the title made it a little easier.
