Steins;Gate X Monogatari Anniversary Event

Everything we know about collaboration

When this collaboration was first hinted at Steins;Gate The X account was ambiguous at best. However, fans noticed the clues left in the post less than 24 hours after it was first posted, and speculation about a possible collaboration began. The day after the mysterious post was published, Siliconera’s Stephanie LIu reported the following translation and interpretation:

The tweet in question reads as if Okabe is saying, “The operation is going well.” The speaker then reacts in shock to some emojis. After recovering, he says that this is another choice for Steins Gate and ends the message with El Psy Kongroo, which is Okabe's customary way of ending a call.

The emojis in the tweet are a crab, a snail, a monkey, a snake, a cat, a flower, and two vampires. The order of the emojis seems to be a reference to the Monogatari light novel series. In Monogatari, the main character Araragi Koyomi helps girls he meets at school or in town with problems related to supernatural oddities. In Hitagi Crab, he helps his classmate and future girlfriend Hitagi Senjougahara steal a crab that stole her weight. Then, in Mayoi Mai Mai (Snail), he helps a lost girl named Mayoi Hachikuji return home. And so on.

They were right, and a little over a month later, the official event was announced. The trailer on YouTube is just over a minute long, so not many details have been revealed so far. However, what has been announced is that a special event will take place at Tokyo Tower in mid-October 2024, with a themed Animax cafe. An exclusive pop-up store will also open in mid-November 2024.

While more official details have yet to be revealed, we can speculate on what's on offer based on similar past events. Previous anime events held at Tokyo Tower have included character cutouts and photo opportunities for fans, usually with the Tokyo skyline in the background, along with special merchandise featuring the characters and Tokyo Tower. The Animax Cafe will feature a special anime-themed menu and even more exclusive merchandise. Finally, the pop-up shop will do just that. There'll be plenty of special merchandise to purchase!

The promotional video features characters from both works. Steins;Gate and Monogatari Wearing each other's clothes, the collaboration merchandise will probably be the same. It will be a really special event for fans of both series. No one would have imagined that the two animes would come together for something like this. It's a very special way to celebrate the 15th anniversary, and with the event starting in less than a month, more details will be coming out soon.
