Content creator MoistCr1TiKaL, also known as Penguinz0, has revealed how much money he makes on YouTube. convulsions. Many people know that creating video or live streaming content can be a very lucrative career for a few creators, but those numbers are usually just guesses. And while some figures, like Twitch and Kick streamer Amouranth, have hinted at the size of their bank accounts, few have been completely transparent.
MoistCr1TiKaL, born Charles Christopher White Jr., is one of the most popular and long-running personalities on YouTube and Twitch. On October 9, he announced that he had halted nearly all monetization of his channel on both platforms, including Super Chat and donations. He couldn't stop people from donating bits on Twitch, but he set the minimum amount so high that it deterred most people from wanting to donate. While this decision was generally met with acceptance or praise, a few, including other highly profitable content creators, criticized the move.
Penguinz0 shares his Twitch and YouTube earnings.
Known for being blunt and honest, MoistCr1TiKaL decided to defend his decision to demonetize by revealing how much money he has made as a content creator over the past 20 years. In a YouTube video, he revealed that he has earned over $5.5 million from advertising and subscriptions since he first started live streaming on Twitch in 2017. On YouTube, the number is much higher. He started his channel in 2007 as Penguinz0 and currently has over 17 million subscribers. In just 20 years, he earned nearly $36 million. MoistCr1TiKaL points out that YouTube also donated its first four to five years of revenue to charity, although these figures do not include sponsorship deals or other revenue-generating methods associated with content creation.
These numbers, which MoistCr1TiKaL calls “unfathomable amounts,” have made him uncomfortable accepting donations from people anymore. His job is incredibly easy, he says, and people should spend their hard-earned money on themselves or donate it to charity. After all, the overwhelming majority of a content creator's income comes from advertising on Twitch and YouTube, and demonetization would cost the streamer about $1 million a year based on membership, super chat, and gift revenue generated on YouTube over the past year, the streamer explains.
As for other creators who may feel threatened or pressured by this decision, MoistCr1TiKaL emphasizes that he is not trying to make a statement or start a movement by demonetizing his Twitch and YouTube channels. He doesn't think it's right to personally accept cash from hard-working people who earn much less than him, and he doesn't try to influence others to follow in his footsteps.
