Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 Reveals Final Patch Notes

Metal Gear Solid fans received a surprise treat to start the weekend, as Konami released Patch 3.0.0 for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1. As the final update to the fan-favorite Metal Gear Solid compilation, the 3.0.0 update offers some new graphical options for players on all available platforms to pick from.

The new update dropped after a busy week for Konami. During the February 12 State of Play broadcast, Konami showcased what it will be releasing in 2026 and beyond, and hearkened back to some of its classic IPs. The Castlevania franchise will get a new game in 2026, as Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse will be the franchise’s first new entry since 2014’s Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. Along with a return to old franchises, Konami revealed it was developing a new JRPG project called Rev.Noir for the PS5. It is currently unclear when Rev.Noir will be released and if other platforms will be supported.

Konami’s Octopus Game Includes a Metal Gear Solid Tribute, and You Can Try It Right Now

Konami’s new octopus game features a Metal Gear Solid tribute, which players can enjoy with a fully playable demo, available now.

Along with the reveal of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, Konami gave players of the first compilation a major update to delve into. Patch 3.0.0 for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 introduced some new texture packs for players to pick from, depending on the game and platform. Players of the first MGS title can access the High Resolution and Max Resolution texture packs on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam. However, PS4 and Switch users can only pick between the Original and High Resolution pack. The new graphics options can be selected from the settings menu.

By selecting either the High Resolution or Max Resolution texture pack, Metal Gear Solid fans can play through one of 1998’s best games in a new light. Konami highlighted the changes via comparisons of how Metal Gear Solid looks under the original settings and Max Resolution pack. The option to swap the confirm and cancel buttons on all platforms, save the Nintendo Switch, was also included. Steam users can also remap their key bindings if using a keyboard and mouse.

Switch users also saw a big change for Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, as Switch 2 support was added with the 3.0.0 update. When playing the compilation on a Switch 2, users can select Adjusted Mode to play the game at an upscaled resolution of 1080p. With these new graphical choices, the internal resolution and internal upscaling options will display sharper textures on different surfaces. This upscaling also extends to the game’s cutscenes.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Looks Sharper In 4K

Finally, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater players on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Steam can download a High Resolution texture pack as free DLC. This will allow the game’s graphics to be rendered between 1080p and 4K, depending on if internal resolution or internal scaling are utilized. However, the MGS3 High Resolution texture pack will require players to set aside additional storage space. Although the texture pack only requires 22GB on PS5, Xbox and Steam users will need to set aside 65 to 70 GB of storage space. Konami also recommended that Steam users install the new textures on a solid-state drive. Additionally, Steam users are recommended to have an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 graphics card, or a newer model, installed on their system. Given the current prices on SSDs and other essential PC components, players may be forced to spend extra money to play Metal Gear Solid 3 at a higher resolution.

Along with the new texture packs for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1, a bug that prevented certain codec audio from playing on the Switch version was addressed. Other minor issues were also addressed, though it is unclear what those were. All in all, players looking to experience some of the best Metal Gear stories with modernized graphics can now do so.
