Mass Effect 5 director mocks Paragon and Renegade morality systems

summation

  • The director of Mass Effect 5 mentioned the Paragon and Renegade systems on Twitter, raising hopes that they will appear in the next game.

  • The director says “we'll have to wait and see” whether this system will return in Mass Effect 5.

  • He added that Renegade should be an option, even if most players choose Paragon.

When discussing the Mass Effect series with other fans, there is a lot to talk about. But first, there are two questions to ask. Who have you dated? And were you an exemplary man or a traitor?

So I was surprised when Mass Effect: Andromeda completely removed this feature. Instead, we had four personality types: emotional, logical, casual, and professional. But we have no idea what kind of dialogue and morality system will be in place in Mass Effect 5.

Mass Effect 5 Director Teases Paragon and Renegade Returns

Nothing has been confirmed yet, but fans believe the old moral system is returning.

This teaser was created by Michael Gable, who has worked at BioWare since 2009. Now he's leading the next Mass Effect game, which many are calling Mass Effect 5 until the official title is revealed.

Gamble's comments about the paragon and traitor systems came in response to a fan discussion. One person highlighted that far fewer players make Shepard a traitor. “Yes, it is true that more people have played the role of Paragon,” says Gable. “But it wouldn't have made any sense without Renegade. IMO, the ability to choose is stronger than the number of people playing any given option.”

Some fans interpreted this to mean that the Paragons and Renegades would return in Mass Effect 5, but he said that's not the case at the moment. “We were talking about a trilogy. I guess we’ll have to wait a little longer…”

At least Dragon Age: The Veilguard is out now. We already know that The Veilguard won't be getting DLC, so the team can focus on the next Mass Effect, so it's likely we'll get details in 2025.
