Earlier today, Nintendo gave us an extended look at Kingdom Hearts 4, complete with gameplay, to win the hearts of every Kingdom Hearts fan on the planet. Many people were on cloud 9, and many probably still are. But thanks to a fan base that lives and dies in tragedy, Square Enix couldn't really let them enjoy the happiness for too long.
Shortly after the Nintendo Direct ended, Square Enix released a statement saying that the cloud version of the Kingdom Hearts series for Nintendo Switch was being discontinued immediately and would no longer be available for purchase. Additionally, it will be completely shut down on June 9, 2027, making it unplayable.
Kingdom Hearts 3 isn't playable on the original Switch
There is good news and bad news here. Of course, the latter is more common. The good news is that Nintendo has announced a Switch 2 port for literally the entire Kingdom Hearts series, as well as proper versions of Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.5 for the original Switch.
Unfortunately, it looks like the OG Switch version of Kingdom Hearts 3 will not be released. This means that once the cloud version disappears, the game will literally become unplayable on that system.

Kingdom Hearts Switch 2 Port Is Finally Revealed, Coming This October
After months of rumors and a lot of begging, Kingdom Hearts is getting a proper port for Switch 2.
You might also ask what happens to those who bought the cloud version of Kingdom Hearts, despite it being single-player. It seems like the games they purchased are essentially being taken away from them. Well, instead of getting the Switch version for free, they'll be able to get the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game, which they received at a “discounted price from the Nintendo eShop.”
Yes, in an incredible act of consumer-friendly practice, they will be removing the game so you can purchase it. Sure, the cloud version of the game wasn't great, and you had to wait in line to get in, but the game was purchased, and those purchases are being canceled. It's not a great look right after announcing so many new games.
