Intense Civil War game that's starting to look too realistic

Fictional stories always run parallel to our reality, often even crossing the line between fictional stories and real-world events. One common theme that many games have explored over the years has to do with armed conflict, and more specifically: civil war Battles for everything from resources to land to overall global control have become more relevant over time.

The world we live in today is statistically the safest in terms of war. But that doesn't mean civil unrest and large-scale battlefields don't exist. As we move into the future, it's great to get a glimpse and experience of a completely fictional environment. These stories may be based on only a faint truth, but they can still teach us a lot about what it means to find common ground and peace even in the midst of hostility.

I think what makes the game so realistic is the default setting and focus on truly meaningful missions rather than pure action.

You don't just slay enemies 24/7, you actually defeat villains and reclaim the city that once stood tall and proud. Additionally, focusing on instability rather than total apocalypse allows the narrative to pay much closer attention to the technological realities of the in-game world. You uncover the misinformation, infrastructure failures, and deep ideological divides that drive the conflict far deeper than any single villain. As a result, this event has much more to do with the current social and political situation than many people might expect.

Far Cry 5

• Every mission highlights the vulnerability of civilians.

Far Cry 5 Set far from urban centers and bustling metropolises, the story deals with the conflict surrounding the takeover of rural Montana by a heavily armed apocalyptic group. While some games depict large armies in direct conflict with prominent populations, here the focus is on communities trapped in a vicious cycle of escalating ideological extremism, surrounded by suffocating levels of paramilitary control.

A more isolated setup would be: Far Cry 5 Basic farms, churches, roads and miniature villages have become epicenters of much wider fighting, weighing on the violence to the point where many people feel uncomfortable in the places they call home. I always thought this game stood out from the others in the series. Despite its absurd moments, much of the action and narrative events feel very realistic, relying less on spectacle and instead exploring the idea that radicalization can emerge gradually within the general environment that exists across the world.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

When technology and society collide

When it comes to our society's slow integration with technology, few games fit the bill quite like this. Deus Ex: Human Revolution. You find yourself in the midst of a civil war based on technological inequality and social division. Human augmentation creates a new class system and causes increasingly aggressive political polarization in major cities, causing widespread fear and corruption across all levels of society.

While the game's futuristic setting may place it outside the scope of your current abilities, the themes surrounding corporate control and distrust between institutions and citizens are extremely relevant today, regardless of who you are or where you come from. It does not depict traditional warfare. Rather, it depicts a slow social instability driven by competing visions of the future, which we are almost certain to face at some point in the coming decades.

Detroit: Be Human To me, it's one of the scariest mirrors of reality that exists in the gaming world. AI and humanity are getting closer and closer, and soon we will be able to live and walk alongside sentient robots. Here, the game focuses on many themes, moving androids from consumer products to political actors and forcing society into an uncomfortable confrontation about what it means to be human.

What resonated most with me was how many scenes and moments aligned well with modern conventions. It doesn't matter whether you watch the news or see the reaction of law enforcement. Everything looks exactly like in real life, but there are still some advanced technologies that are not that different from reality. If you are interested in AI or have a fear of advanced intelligence, Detroit: Be Human Especially now, give it a try before things get too similar.

home front I imagine a near-future America divided by foreign occupation of Korea after unification. Because the story takes place in their hometown, some players will feel a greater connection to the events than others. As someone who lives outside the United States, I can still appreciate how the game presents everyday places like schools and residential streets as alternative settings for war.

These familiar environments take on a much darker atmosphere that feels eerie and uncomfortable. Another scary thing is how quickly many environments are taken over and civilian spaces are militarized almost overnight, reinforcing the perception that modern infrastructure is more vulnerable than it appears. Ultimately, I found that although the conflict is a far cry from the large-scale apocalyptic shooters seen in other genres, the personal and localized nature of the fights makes the tone much more challenging. This is something that many people have come to regard as much more important in the modern age.
