Large budget strategic games can be felt like a committee. But indie strategy game? They take danger. They are ridiculous. And more often, they surprise you in a way that are not big people.

Indie games without this family eventually started a big industry trend.
You can see the influence of this indie game throughout things later.
After sinking hundreds of hours on both sides of the spectrum, I knew that the most memorable strategic moments often came from strange, bold or deep personal studios. It may be a machine ball I haven't seen before, or it's more difficult than expected. Either way, they often remind me why I fell in love with strategy games.

There is a rare tactical game that feels like a chess rather than a war. There is no random opportunity. All enemy movements are transferred. So when you lose, it is unfortunately you are wrong. This kind of high -risk decision is why I like strategy games.
I spent several hours to play the turn that failed my head. This is a perfect example of the indie game to be forced to remove the lint and actually think. There is no leveling tree or cinematic inflation. It is an elegant and painful decision.

Slipway
Grand strategy without war
“What should I do if Stellaris doesn't have a battle?” And slipway is the answer. Instead of managing the empire through diplomacy or battle, the planet is connected with the trade channels of the Zen puzzle than Zero Island.
I didn't expect it to like it (I thought I would miss a high stake in good faith). But it is surprisingly satisfactory to optimize the economy by crossing the stars. It is still refreshing and refreshing, demanding a high -level decision.

Most urban construction companies are cozy until they are not. Knowing that eternal storms against the storm will eventually swallow them, they throw you into the Roguelite loop that sets the settlement. The clock is really tension, and it is never old anyway.

22 best tactical strategy games for beginners
When you enter tactical strategy games, you may feel difficult at first, but this game can still provide a good challenge while relieving the new player.
I couldn't track the number of beaver colonies I saw in autumn. The possibility of regeneration is unmatched, and the rotation challenge was much longer than originally expected.

Since I grew up as a preliminary war, Wargroove caused immediate nostalgia, but more than a replica. Its pixel art and animation are felt by hand, and the commander's special abilities add another tactical layer.
But what actually connected me was the campaign. It's too difficult but never unfair. I remember losing the same mission three times whenever I adjust my strategy until I finally click. This kind of spacing and learning curves are rare, and Wargroove nailed it without a huge developer team. It's difficult but possible.

shadow
Tactical Solitare is now a true genre
Yes, ShadowHand is a solitaire -based strategy game (eg rules). You are playing with orbit to a noble woman to release your card puzzles while installing equipment and managing turn -based battles. I expected it to be a special effect, but time went on while obsessed with armor statistics and combo chain.
GreenLight “Historical Solitare -RPG with Pistol?” What AAA Publisher is it? That's why there's no one and it works. It is a completely left field idea with the heart and amazing mechanical depth. It is not a game that works on paper, but somehow.

I lost a man who was attacked by colonial residents by fire, infectious diseases, and about 25 deer. Rimworld is not about victory. To talk. Everything is managed by a system that interacts in a chaotic manner. The big budget version of this has added a cut scene or a compulsory goal.

You have never played this 8 game, but I love their spiritual successor
Many loved games have looked down at the roots.
However, Rimworld works precisely because it can be made terribly messed up after choosing its goal. It is a story -oriented game without any real campaign. In a few years, I will remember the name of the colonial residents. It is not just a strategy. It is storytelling.

This happens when a person is obsessed with urban builders for 20 years and then makes himself. SYX's song is a small start. I had 12 farmers and a single shack. Then, it expands into a huge city with more than 10,000 people, and each has been simulated to the entire schedule.
It is absolutely foolish in the place. But I accepted this about the simplified identity of many modern cities. I think I'm playing a new game. This is not a liz key version of the game that I played 10 years ago. All System Interlock: Education, Sanitation, Crime, Culture. The depth I wanted.

Do not let the soft pastel deceive you. The bad north is ruthless. You have all the lost units defend the small island in the Viking invasion in the permanent real -time tactical battle. What I love is how quiet everything is. There is no explosive music or dramatic cut scene. Just wind, waves, sudden violence.
In particular, there are few games that trust the game, especially when the war is related. But the bad north somehow works beautifully. All islands feel like a minimalist puzzle, and if things go wrong, only acting remains (and try again.)

Polyopia Battle
Strategy at lunch time
Polytopia occurs when 4X mechanics is boiled with pure concentrated water. The rotation is dull, the map is tight, and there is enough skills and wars to scratch the CIV itch without requiring a six -hour life.
I first played my phone and expected it to come. Instead, I optimized the city and went down to the timing invasion. It is the most fun per minute in strategy games, and it is evidence that 200 systems are not needed to satisfy domination.

Warpips are similar to children's games with Chunky Tanks and Bobblehead Soldiers. But below it is a solid RT with serious depth. In short and confusing battles, we manage economy, unit synergy effect and batch timing. Differentiating it is a way of trimming fat. There is no basic construction small management, no endless technology tree.
Instead, it's just a decision -making for 15 minutes. I have played a lot of RTS games that feel swelling. This game feels like you have left the rest of the genre and left the rest.
