We finally got the Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse update at CinemaCon 2026. A few new images may have gotten fans excited about the latest from Miles and the crew, but the June 18, 2027 release date tempered that excitement. Despite all this time, the movie is still over a year away.
But looking at the newly released photos, it might be worth the wait. A total of four images were released, one showing Miles having a heartfelt moment with his late father, and another showing him fighting in style with Spider-Man 2099 (Miguel O'Hara). But what's really interesting are the other two images.
Beyond The Spider-Verse features Miles' father.
The first photo in question features fan-favorite Spiderpunk with the words “Gonna save your father” written around him. Considering that Miles' father's death was a major plot point and in-universe canon event, it can be assumed that the plot will shift towards rescuing Jefferson Davis at some point.
Of course, considering the multiverse, ‘saving dad’ may have a completely different context. Perhaps it's Prowler Miles' father who needs saving. Only after the trailer or movie comes out will we know the real context. The following photo shows younger versions of Jefferson and Aaron Davis, the latter of whom became the Prowler in Mile's world. It's either a flashback or some other multiverse madness. Either way, at least three of these images confirm that Miles' dad will have a major role in the film.
Spider-Verse helped change the landscape of animation.
There is a bright path ahead of us.
Beyond the Spider-Verse will likely end the beloved trilogy. This incredible animated trilogy is probably the best Spider-Man-related thing to happen to Sony since the first Tobey Maguire movie, but the huge gap in time between the films was painful.
There was a five-year gap between the first two films, and now a four-year gap between the third films. Of course, I know that gorgeous animation takes time to come to fruition, and I think it's better for creators to take that time than to dive into the sloping world of AI.
