The Quest Officially Begins Once Abelard lands on Dargonus after assessing the situation.. When you arrive, there will be numerous corpses in front of Von Valancius Palace. Passing a few skill checks will allow you to investigate the scene and gain insight into what happened, but In the end, none of this will help you with your investigation.. If you still want the bonus XP, I recommend examining the body and talking to the police officer greeting you.

Once inside the palace, you will be greeted by Governor Drivestem and Clementia Werserian in the throne room. Talk to them to get a better sense of the situation. But whatever you do, Don't say the Werserians are guilty. The quest is then immediately failed and Abelard's family is publicly executed.

Here, You can talk to the heads of House Gaprak and House Sauerback to get more insight into what's going on.Alternatively, you can go back to the main entrance of the palace and find a man praying at a nearby shrine at the bottom of the stairs. This man is Halen Gaprak, and if you talk to Vicent Gaprak in the throne room, you'll learn that Halen has been acting suspiciously lately.

When you spot Halen Gaprak outside the throne room, he will suddenly collapse. If you pass a medical or perception check, or have Heinrix in your party, it will be revealed that he has been poisoned.. Examining Halen's body find the guilty note About a mysterious benefactor who offers to settle his debt if he frames the Werserians for treason.

Go back to the Urbend Drivestem and ask if they've seen Halen Gaprak recently. One of the Drivestem nobles will tell you that he was seen talking to a nearby gentleman. Follow the Drivestem noble, then examine the bench they point out. If you pass the Perception check, Abelard will tell you that the wine bottle you found has the mark of House Sauerback.

After examining the bench, talk to Governor Drivestem again to deliver your verdict. Here, like any good CRPG, you can choose to execute one of the high-ranking noble families you spoke to in the throne room, but the answer here is House Sauerback.

To be clear: The real culprit is Regina Sauerbach.. You can't accuse her directly, but if you follow all the steps above, You get the option to have Abelard handle the sentencing.. If you don't want the entire House Sauerback to be executed, select that option.

If you don't tell the Drivestem nobles about the note written on Halen's body, you won't be able to get Abelard to handle the sentence. Additionally, if you have spoken to the head of any noble house, you can make a Perception check to gain additional conversation options. You won't be criticized for choosing this, but you will receive bonus XP if you pass the check.

After the sentence is over, Regina will be publicly executed outside the palace. And as your reward You will receive the Traitor's Ring. This accessory is equipped with a single shot of liquefaction that deals damage and applies the melting condition to enemies within a 3-cell radius. This is the only reward you can get from this quest (as far as I know).
