Prerelease is one of the most important stages for a new game. Magic: The Gathering The set marks the first time you can try out cards from a new set directly without requiring special access.
While this is technically an event best experienced with friends or other players, there's no reason you can't purchase a pre-release kit to get an early start on your new set collection.
So whether you're heading to LGS, playing a private event, or simply buying the kit to enjoy the content, here's everything you need to know about the Marvel Super Heroes pre-release.
What is a Prerelease in MTG?
The prerelease 7-day period during which new Magic: The Gathering sets can be played publicly for the first time. Not all products are available. Stores often only sell pre-launch kits and host events. This largely depends on your LGS and your relationship with it. There are currently some places that will let you take your pre-ordered product to your home, but they can't guarantee it.
Prerelease for Marvel Super Heroes begins on Friday, June 19, 2026.
If you plan to attend a pre-launch event, you will need to purchase a pre-launch kit when you arrive. These include: Play 6 booster packs, foil promo (no stamp), set themed d20. You will then need to use the cards from your Play Booster to build a 40-card deck. You add lands separately to this deck, but you can choose special lands from packs if you want. If you do not own spare land, you can request LGS to provide you with land. They almost always have room to spare.
They will then compete against other players in the event either knockout style or round robin format to determine the winner group of the event.
Again, every LGS is different and your LGS may not run events competitively. Instead, you can encourage casual play by rewarding participation for all players.
