Halo PS5 Remake Makes Library Levels Less Annoying

While this has been happening for a while, the release of Halo: Campaign Evolved on PlayStation will be considered the official ending for the Xbox exclusive. Microsoft is rejigging its Xbox strategy from a console-first to a platform-first approach, releasing a slew of exclusives on PlayStation, but Halo is undoubtedly the biggest of them all.

Like any remake, Halo: Campaign Evolved will seek to improve upon the original, not only in terms of visuals, but also gameplay and quality of life improvements. However, there was one part of the original Halo: Combat Evolved that had a few extra add-ons because it was really annoying to get through.

Halo: Campaign Evolved's library levels are receiving more changes.

Veteran gamers will find The Library to be one of the most disappointing levels in Combat Evolved. It was filled with constant waves of Flood enemies, limited ammo drops, and very few checkpoints. Not to mention that everything looked the same, and it felt like Master Chief was trapped in some kind of nightmarish abomination. It looks like Campaign Evolved will be making a few tweaks to improve the experience.

The levels remain mostly as you remember them, but creative director Max Szlagor revealed in a blog post that the team will be making improvements, especially to the infamous library sections. “We learned from Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary that there is still a need for better pathfinding, navigation, and variety in enemy encounters,” he said.

“Especially with the library, which includes several flood events, we wanted to re-evaluate the pacing and strengthen the environmental storytelling. We've added new dialogue to Guilty Spark that guides players through the levels, and there's new dialogue that provides more insight into the unfolding narrative.”

However, he emphasized that these improvements did not sacrifice the story in any way. They just add a little more context and ensure players can keep track of their location. You may see changes like this in certain other levels as well, but they don't affect Combat Evolved's nostalgia in any way.
