Focus in the Troll Canyon is one of the Focus Stone quests. Gothic 1 Remake. This comes as part of the Chapter 3 main quest, The Focus Stones, which players receive from Saturas at the end of The Water Mages' Plans.

How to Start Focus in Troll Canyon in Gothic 1 Remake
The Troll Canyon Focus can be used during the main quest Focus Stone, given by Saturas after completing the Water Mage's Plan. Before you can find the Focus Stone, you must first visit the tower that Diego marked on your map when he gave you the Water Mage's Plans. This location is marked on the previous map, if you haven't purchased it yet please see our guide on how to get it.
Once you reach the tower, talk to the NPC you find there to mark the location of the focus stone on your map. This conversation will also take the NPC to that location, and when you enter Troll Canyon, you will meet Milten.
Where to Find Troll Canyon
To get to Troll Canyon, cross the small bridge just north of Old Camp and continue north through a wooded area. Continue north past the cave entrance leading to the Rogues' Camp until you meet Milten. The location of Troll Canyon is marked on the previous map, but it should also be marked on the in-game map if you visited the aforementioned tower first.
There are some dangerous enemies along the way to Troll Canyon, including the Snapper, which hits pretty hard. Before you set off, make sure you have decent armor, powerful weapons, and enough healing items.
Follow Milton to the shelter
After finding Milten, talk to him and follow him to the shelter to the right of Troll Canyon. When you enter the shelter, he may be briefly distracted by the shelves, but you should eventually explain that he can move and create a scroll that will shrink the troll. This scroll makes it much easier to dispatch enemies to reach the Focus Stone, but Milton needs the Troll's Skin to prepare it.
There is a mana restoration potion on the shelf where Milton stops nearby. Shrinking Monster Scroll requires at least 5 mana to use, so be sure to pick it up if your current mana is very low.
Where to Find Troll Skin
The Troll's Hide is located on the side of Troll Canyon across from the shelter. There are several goblin warriors between the shelter and the skin, so you'll need to kill them before collecting materials.
A safe way to fight goblin warriors is to get their attention, drag them back to the shelter, and defeat them there. This method allows you to kill goblins without directly engaging the trolls, but it requires some patience.
After the goblin warriors are dead, collect the troll's skin in the area across from the shelter. If you can't find it, refer to the image above. There are several Trollbane Nettles around the troll's hide, so it's worth picking them up right now.
What happens if I sell a troll skin?
Some players report finding and selling troll skins before starting The Focus in Troll Vale. If that's the case, go back to the merchant you purchased the skin from and see if you can purchase it again.
If you don't remember which vendor you sold it to, you may need to defeat the troll without reducing its size. Alternatively, you can load a save file from before you sold the skin, but this may not be possible if you sold it a long time ago.
As of this writing, no other source for the Shrink Monster scroll has been identified. So you have the option of repurchasing the troll's skin, reloading a previous save, or fighting the troll without the scroll.
How to Reduce Trolls
After collecting all the troll skins, return to Milton at the shelter and hand them over. He uses the skins to create scrolls of shrinking monsters that he can cast on trolls. Equip the scroll on your hotbar and wait for the troll to come into range before casting the spell. It will then be very easy to defeat the troll and you will be ready to continue the chase once the focus stone is dispatched.
Shrink Monster costs 5 mana, so you can cast it without investing in mana upgrades. However, your current mana must be high enough when using it, and using the aforementioned mana restoration potion can easily meet this requirement.
How to open a gate in Troll Canyon
After the troll is dead, interact with the lever to the left of the door in the area. When Milton operates the right lever, the gate will rise and he can move forward.
After going through the door, follow the path to the end and you will reach a small alcove with a chest in it. Inside that chest is a Telekinesis Scroll, which you'll need for the next step, so be sure to grab it before returning to the previous room.
How to Use Telekinesis to Reach the Focus Stone
After returning to the previous room, climb the stairs, kill the Harpies at the top, and approach the edge near the platform with the Focus Stone. There are some purple crystals on the sides of the platform, which you can cast telekinesis on to create a bridge that can be used to reach the stone.
To create a bridge, equip a telekinesis scroll to your hotbar, target the brightest purple crystal, and hold the spell until the bridge is fully extended. If you stop channeling telekinesis too early, your legs may not be strong enough to safely cross the gap to the platform.
If your maximum mana is very low, you may need to use herbs that restore mana over time before casting Telekinesis. Dark Herb, Raven Herb, or Trollbane Nettle can help you focus your spells long enough to extend your legs, and if you have nothing else to use, you can find several Trollbane Nettle near the troll's hide.
How to Focus in Troll Canyon
Once the bridge is fully extended, cross it to access the cornerstone platform. In Troll Canyon, interact with the stone to receive focus. You can then return to Saturas in the new camp to complete The Focus in Troll Canyon and receive 3,500 XP.
