Astute God of War fans, or really any God of War fans, will have noticed that I didn't feature an image of the canceled live service game as the cover photo for this article. I prefer not to cross the wires. I'll explain in a moment. Importantly, Bluepoint Games' primary project, which would have been a multiplayer entry, would have had a Greek setting.
Now we know this without a doubt, we can all discern at least a little more. At least it must have been a pretty cool video game. Considering how clean God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarok are, this seems somewhat reasonable. If visual cuts were made here to support a more dynamic style, Bluepoint's conceptual phase masked them well. If you look at screenshots from the early stages, you can see something even uglier.
Let's thank MP1st for these photos
See that lush image? Make no mistake. Taken from mp1st. Or perhaps it would be best to say that it is taken from the source of mp1st. Whoever the source was, they provided mp1st with a great disclosure package. If you want to see everything, you'll have to run to the link I provided.
As I said this is clearly Greek video game. At best, wouldn't it have been possible to explore Greek colonies throughout the Mediterranean and Western Asia? But I think when people think of God of War, they think of the Pantheon before that particular setting. Especially when the House of God tends to charge first on that front.
There's a lot to explore here, including temples, caves, and rooms full of weapons. According to mp1st's sources, Hades was in charge of that room, which was actually an armory. Perhaps players have stocked up on everything they need to kick ass and earn their name thanks to Hades himself. mp1st also has comparison photos showing the “curse” that has plagued the realm. This is actually the area of one photo I took. Because there is an image attached that shows the area in a healthier shape.
What does it all mean? We can only infer that much. The rest may disappear over time. Thankfully, it doesn't look like Sony is putting God of War on ice anytime soon. There's an Amazon TV series on the way, and modern-day Kratos VA (and Stargate SG-1 sensation) Christopher Judge wants the next game (which hasn't been officially announced yet…) to take place in Egypt.
Some people are even claiming that a Metroidvania-style God of War game is on the way.
