Laufey, God of War It's scheduled to be released next year, and I couldn't be more excited about it. unequal god of war ragnarokThis is essentially just “Chapter 2” of . god of war 2018, Laufey, God of War It appears to be much more distinct, with not only a new protagonist, but a whole new cast of characters, and even gods from different mythologies. additionally, Laufey, God of War It promises to reveal many dark secrets left in its wake. RagnarokPotentially including Atreus' true origins.
The bombshell finale of 2018 god of war Kratos' son Atreus was originally going to be named Loki, and his mother, hitherto called Faye, was actually a Jotnar named Laufey. Anyone with some familiarity with Norse mythology (which most people probably are now, thanks to Marvel) knows that Loki is a trickster god who is the son of Laufey and Farbauti and sometimes the adoptive son of Odin. He is also often depicted as a villain who casts uncertainty over Atreus' future virtue. But things won't be as simple as a predictable central point of evil. god of war ragnarok Indicates an upcoming item at all.

All gods confirmed to belong to God of War Laufey
Several gods are expected to appear in God of War Laufey and clash with Faye, and here's everyone on the roster so far:
Loki Twist Impact on God of War
When I first played it god of war ragnarokI was a little disappointed with Atreus' trip to Loki. Characters like Odin and Angrboda refer to him as Loki, and while there are definite similarities to the Loki of Norse mythology (such as the ability to shapeshift), there isn't a single major twist involving Atreus' alter ego. But soon after, Santa Monica Studios' narrative plans became clearer. The studio is building its own version of Norse mythology. god of warInstead of modifying or completely subverting existing expressions.

It's useful to remember how the Loki twist unfolds in the first place. at the end god of war In 2018, after scattering Laufey's ashes in Jotunheim, Atreus and Kratos encounter a mural painted by the visionary Fae and the Jotnar clan. The mural shows that Fay predicted several events, including Kratos' arrival in the Norse realm and the birth of Atreus. However, the Jotnar could not confirm their names, so they called them Farbauti and Loki, respectively.
Farbauti roughly translates to “dangerous striker,” which may explain why the Jotnar gave Kratos that name. That's pretty appropriate. Loki's etymology is less clear, but some researchers believe the name comes from the Germanic root luk, a prefix on words related to loops, webs, and locks.
The reveal of Loki's name is a shock to players, but not necessarily Kratos and Atreus. “Loki” is just another Norse name devoid of any real meaning to them. This is why Atreus follows the same path as Loki. god of war ragnarokHowever, there are certain distortions.
For example, the wolf Fenrir is the child of Loki in Norse mythology, and although most stories present this as a literal father-son relationship, god of war ragnarok Fenrir is basically Atreus' “fur baby,” which makes it symbolic. Likewise, he was not fully adopted by Odin, but was taken under his wing, with the All-Father taking on a more ambiguously patriarchal role. We can think of the following: god of war The series is an alternate interpretation of the Norse legend, and its creative liberties are much less dramatic than they first appear. It's different, but in the same way that the theologian's wild theories might be.
God of War Laufey may continue to complicate Loki's journey.
god of war ragnarok It's all about breaking the chains of fate. According to the aforementioned Jotunheim mural, Kratos was destined to die during Ragnarok, but apparently that didn't happen. Kratos and Atreus took charge of their own destiny. But most of Jotnar's other visions actually came to fruition. We assume their Atreus-related visions ended with Ragnarok, but it's also possible that Laufey saw a closer look at his son's future, or alternative realities, pasts, or other conclusions about upcoming events.
In both cases, Laufey, God of War It will provide additional insight into Atreus, especially through the eyes of his mother. This is an important difference. We've seen a lot of character development for Atreus so far, but it's always been through Kratos' filter. For example, when Atreus becomes unable to control his anger, it is assumed that this is a trait he inherited from Kratos. This is EssenGod of War CE In 2018, the story hinges on the growing bond between Atreus and his father, and by extension his Greek side.
Laufey might have looked more closely at other conclusions about his son's future or alternate realities, past or upcoming events.
In contrast, Laufey, God of War I was able to see Atreus better through my mother's eyes, his Norse “Loki” side. Of course, we'd get more information about the name Loki itself, as well as additional details about Atreus' life as Loki. For example, Faye may have a vision of Atreus' original fate that shows a future version where Kratos dies and Atreus is actually Odin's adopted son. Perhaps Fay could have experienced a natural fear of her son turning to the dark side.
This is to say nothing of Everywhen, which is loosely defined. Laufey has already seen Kratos, who introduces the possibility of visions appearing in this realm. overfull god of war It revolves around fate and fate, both of which are closely linked to the Fae, who have the power to reveal the future. So it wouldn't be appropriate to further analyze the twists of the character's fate by having Faye experience some version of Loki, for better or worse, in Everywhen.
