The upcoming Switch 2 is still thin enough to fit into the current dock, but it's not compatible.
Genki CEO Eddie Tsai has revealed more details about the Nintendo Switch 2 and confirmed some speculations. Rumors about the highly anticipated console have been swirling for months, but one of the biggest revelations happened recently at CES 2025. Genki, a technology company that develops and sells handheld gaming devices like the popular PocketPro game controller, has arrived at CES. Includes a 3D printed model of the Nintendo Switch 2.
The goal was to showcase accessories currently in development for the new console. Behind closed doors, Genki handed out models and allowed attendees to take a closer look. According to the tech company, this 3D printed model is based on a Switch 2 purchased on the black market and is an exact replica of the upcoming Nintendo console in exact size. Most notable were the increased size that brought it closer to Valve's Steam Deck, the magnetic-looking Joy-Con, a second USB-C port, and a mysterious new button labeled “C”.

Nintendo Switch 2 leak hints at massive storage improvements
A new Switch 2 accessory leak suggests that the upcoming Nintendo console will offer significant storage improvements over its predecessor.
In an interview with The Verge, Genki CEO Eddie Tsai clarified some questions that arose following the reveal of the Switch 2 mockup. In fact, he said the Joy-Cons on the new console are magnetic. To remove them, the large button on each Joy-Con pushes out a pin that helps break the magnetic hold on the console's chassis. Despite replacing the current generation Switch's sliding rails with magnets, the Switch 2's Joy-Cons still feel secure during use, Tsai said. In another discussion, Genki shared that the SL and SR buttons on each Joy-Con are likewise magnetic.
Genki shares additional details about Switch 2.
The Genki CEO also provided other details about the upcoming Switch 2. Each Joy-Con's “mounting channel” also has an optical sensor. The new attachments, supposedly connected via magnetic SL and SR buttons, will allow you to use the Joy-Con like a mouse. Switch 2 images that were recently leaked online seem to at least partially confirm this, as many people have noticed what appears to be an optical sensor on the new Joy-Con.
Another interesting piece of news from Genki concerned the thickness of the Switch 2. Despite its greater height and length, the new console is still thin enough to fit into the current Nintendo Switch's dock. However, the dents on the Switch 2 make it virtually unusable in the original Switch dock. As for the mysterious “C” button and the new USB-C port, Genki doesn't know what it is yet.
