Forum Betting, Serious Business
This ResetEra thread isn't the only place on the Internet filled with subtitle speculation this week, but it's an exception in that the thread's author, LaytonWright, struck a deal with the gaming forum's community management. Anyone who answers correctly will receive the “Knights of the Round” profile banner, which cannot be obtained any other way.
Now my banner of the day is “Video Game Journalist”. There's also a nice little “certified” sign. I’m not sure I’d necessarily want to trade that! But maybe! I'm not sure about the subtitles for FF7 Remake Part 3. But it was fun to see what people chose.
At the top of the list here is “Final Fantasy 7 Return,” as well as an overall speculation thread about the trilogy. The first person to mention this, a user going by the nickname The Unsent, said: “Final Fantasy 7 Returns like Return to The Planet seems like a no-brainer to me.” Considering the plot implications, not to mention the fact that it's pretty likely we could traverse the entire planet… I get it. Many agreements followed. If this were to actually come to fruition, it would be enough to generate a significant number of “articles in the round.”
Others stick with “Final Fantasy 7 Reunion.” Most fans tend to make the following choices: don't recognize The developers have publicly expressed their chagrin over the choice of subtitles for Crisis Core Final Fantasy 7 Reunion four years ago. As they've stated outright, that means this is off the table, so there's good reason to assume that's the long and short of it. But never say never because some people are investing in Reunion knowing full well what is being said.
“Final Fantasy 7 Reclaim” got quite a few votes. Revive, Revival, and Requiem also took significant hits. (My personal guess, by the way, is that it's actually a revival.) Reprise, Redemption, Recall, Remembrance, Revelation, Reunite, Returns, Relive, Reverse, Revenge, Renaissance, Reborn, Reunification, Retold, Renew, Recall, Rejoin, Resolve, and Retribution all get votes. No, I would never say this sentence out loud without taking at least one deep breath.
Can you imagine if Part 3 didn't actually start with “Re-“?
Worth noting is that LaytonWright is also running a secondary competition that has everyone in the dark about the release date of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3. If you do it right (anyway), you'll get the “One Winged Angel” profile banner instead. If you somehow guess both, I don't even know what will happen to you, but you should probably win the lottery.
Ubisoft is already remaking Rayman Legends because it's “the richest version in the world.”
