Sony launched the new era of PlayStation Plus in June 2022, combining the previous version with PS Now. Although the latter subscription service was around for a long time, PS Now struggled to get over its early negative reputation, so a revamp was needed to wipe the slate clean.
PS Plus is split into three tiers: Essential, Extra, and Premium. Essential unlocks PlayStation’s online features along with providing a couple of free monthly games. Along with Essential’s offerings, Extra grants access to hundreds of PS5 and PS4 games; meanwhile, Premium extends the lineup to include older consoles. Each month, Sony adds a bunch of new PS Plus games to each tier, including first-party exclusives, third-party juggernauts, and indie darlings. Some months are better than others, but they all tend to include a couple of standouts. What are all the monthly games that have been added to PS Plus?

During its September 2024 State of Play event, Sony decided to reveal the October 2024 PS Plus Essential games early, and they proved to be an exciting trio. More importantly, the lineup is diverse, targeting wildly different genres and audiences; consequently, there should be something to suit most people’s needs, assuming they have not played all the projects already.
WWE 2K24 is arguably October’s headline act, mainly due to it being about 6 months old. Recently, PS Plus Essential has formed a habit of including annual sports games, a trend that is simultaneously exciting and exhausting. On the one hand, these projects are generally popular and packed with more than enough content to keep somebody engaged for a couple of weeks, if not longer. Conversely, if a subscriber is simply not interested in soccer, baseball, or wrestling, these titles offer nothing to them.
Putting aside personal preference, WWE 2K24 is a pretty robust arcade-sim that comes with a fun WrestleMania showcase mode and a silly but enjoyable campaign. GM Mode is also a blast, especially when played with a friend.
Moving on, October 2024’s other two picks are perfect for the spooky season. Dead Space is one of the all-time great sci-fi horror games, and the 2023 remake respectfully tweaks the original to present a familiar but still unique experience. It looks great, plays great, and is constantly intense. Finally, Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! is a masterpiece that rewards blind playthroughs. Team Salvato’s visual novel is unforgettable.
All Monthly Games That Were Free On PS Plus Essential

- 3-Month Price : $24.99
- 12-Month Price: $79.99
Formerly known as just PS Plus, Essential is the minimum required to play online multiplayer on the PS5 or PS4. Every month, the tier rotates a couple of new free PS Plus games. While these titles are only available to purchase for roughly a month, anyone who picks them up can continue to play them after that point as long as they have an active subscription.

Best Single-Player PS5 Games, Ranked
The best single-player games on the PlayStation 5 are typically narrative-driven affairs, built around compelling characters and fantastic storylines.
- 1-Month Price: $14.99
- 3-Month Price : $39.99
- 12-Month Price: $134.99
PS Plus Extra is the first tier that includes a catalog featuring hundreds of games. Extra focuses exclusively on PS5 and PS4 titles, with each month expanding the existing library with roughly 10 to 20 new additions. Unlike Essential, PS Plus Extra’s games are available indefinitely, although some could be removed after spending a few months on the service.
The September 2024 PS Plus Extra new games might attract a mixed reception from subscribers, especially when compared to the month’s departures; however, the lineup has a few exciting titles. The Plucky Squire is, obviously, the headline act, mainly due to being a Day One arrival. These types of releases are starting to become more common, but they are hardly a guarantee. While not a huge name, The Plucky Squire should offer a whimsical mix of 2D and 3D platforming and action.
Anyone craving story-driven adventures with memorable characters should check out Night in the Woods and Road 96. Both games are fantastic in their own right, and they each have strong visual identities. Far Cry 5 also has a fun story, although it is mostly worth playing if someone is fond of the open-world Ubisoft formula. Chernobylite is a welcome addition to PS Plus’ horror lineup.
Overall, September 2024 will not go down as an all-time great month for PS Plus Extra, largely due to lacking any huge names outside of (maybe) The Plucky Squire. Still, the included projects are good additions to the service’s library.
All Classic Games That Were Added To PS Plus Premium
Current: September 2024 PS Plus Premium (Starting From September 17)
- 1-Month Price: $17.99/month
- 3-Month Price : $49.99
- 12-Month Price: $159.99
PS Plus Premium includes everything available on Sony’s service. Along with Essential and Extra’s games and benefits, this tier includes a classic catalog of PS3, PS2, PS1, and PSP games, along with some PS4 remasters. Premium’s monthly additions have been inconsistent so far, and it is not unusual for a month to go by with barely any classic additions to the tier.
Although most lineups contain only a handful of classics, PS Plus Premium has been steadily enhancing its old-school library, particularly when it comes to PSP and PS1 releases. The games might not all be bona fide masterpieces, but the selection covers both well-known and obscure properties. Starting from June 2024, Sony has begun to add PS VR2 games to PS Plus Premium.
The September 2024 Premium lineup is small but strong. Pistol Whip is a brilliant addition to the Plus’ PS VR2 lineup; in fact, an argument could be made that it is the best virtual reality game on the service. While only a small percentage of subscribers have the necessary hardware to run the title, anyone who does should definitely try Pistol Whip.
When it comes to PS Plus Premium classic games, the month’s selection blends the safe with the weird. Secret Agent Clank is a decent PSP spin-off game that builds nicely on the Ratchet and Clank formula. Meanwhile, Mister Mosquito is a celebration of the bizarre, the type of project that nowadays would only be developed by an indie studio. Sky Gunner is a combat flight sim that seems to have been mostly forgotten over the last two decades.
