EA and DICE appear to have listened to player feedback on new Battlefield 6 skins, announcing today that they will be partnering with tactical clothing brand 5.11 for upcoming cosmetics. 5.11 is a global brand that produces apparel to “enhance the safety, accuracy, speed and performance of tactical experts and technology enthusiasts around the world.”
This is quite a departure from Call Of Duty's recent sponsorship deals, which have included cosmetics from companies like Monster Energy. According to a press release, the partnership will include “in-game cosmetics, co-branded merchandise, and sweepstakes to be released in the weeks following launch.”
Are there more ground-based Battlefield 6 skins coming?
This partnership announcement follows recent community discussion about skin plans for Battlefield 6 Season 1. Fans felt betrayed because early skins included neon stripes and funny skull decals. This breaks away from the promise of more “realistic” Battlefield decorations compared to the silliness of Battlefield 2042's Santa Claus.
But we could also change the future of cosmetics. 5.11 is a tactical clothing brand that supplies workwear and tactical equipment worldwide. A quick glance at the website shows no colors other than grey, black and brown, and there is a wide variety of military gear including gun covers, ammo pouches and uniforms.
It's unclear how big of a partnership this will be or how these cosmetics will be launched. This will likely run alongside Season 1 as part of the new cosmetics store planned for the season's launch. There is currently no in-game cosmetics store.
This will probably be separate from the upcoming Season 1 Battle Pass and the cosmetics available there, and so far we haven't heard whether DICE will be tweaking the newly announced skins to tone down some of the colors or make them more realistic.
Season 1 of Battlefield 6 begins on October 28 with Shadowdrop in Battlefield 6 Battle Royale.
