Destiny 2 is Officially Disabling Two Armor Sets Permanently

The official Destiny 2 account on Twitter shared a post about two armor sets being disabled to prevent issues, and they may never be re-enabled again. Destiny 2 is, unfortunately, facing permanent end-of-service after its final hotfix, supposedly coming on Tuesday, July 7, which also happens to be Bungie Day. The patch was scheduled to be delivered this week on June 30, but the layoffs at Bungie made it tough to make any final changes to the game on time.

Destiny 2's final update, called Monument of Triumph, added a lot of new content to the game's patrol destinations and existing activities. This made the game arguably the healthiest it has ever been, but not even the success of Destiny 2's final update moved the needle at Bungie or Sony. In fact, Sony released a statement about Destiny 2 and Bungie, the layoffs at the company, and the future of Marathon. This was followed up by a different announcement in which Sony remarked on its interest in live-service games, which didn't land positively among fans after Destiny 2's death and multiple studio closures in recent memory.

Say Goodbye to These Armor Sets in Destiny 2

  • Grasp of Avarice Dungeon 4-Piece Bonus: Overflowing Coffers
  • Duality Dungeon 4-Piece Bonus: Bittersweet

Just one hour ago, the official Twitter account shared a post stating that the 4-piece armor sets from Destiny 2's Monument of Triumph update are being disabled in the Crucible (all PvP activities) due to being overtuned and causing issues. Normally, this would mean that the items are re-enabled at a later date with fixed values and/or with different perks, but since Bungie laid off almost the entire Destiny 2 development team, there will be no form of support whatsoever for the game going forward. Due to the items being too strong in the Crucible, the only option for the team at Bungie right now is to disable them. So, starting next week (or whenever the final hotfix comes out), these armor set bonuses will no longer work in PvP for the remainder of Destiny 2's lifespan.

The Grasp of Avarice 4-piece set granted players a way to get more ability energy from elemental pickups, while also turning stacks of Untold Greed into an equivalent number of Orbs of Power when the player's shields were broken. This made it so that a group of Stasis Titans could spam their Supers by generating an incredible amount of Stasis Shards and turning them into Orbs of Power, essentially granting each other infinite Super energy in Crucible. This is perhaps one of the best armor sets in Destiny 2and will continue to function in PvE.

Similarly, Destiny 2's Duality Dungeon armor set will also work in PvE, but it's being disabled permanently in PvP. This is because the 4-piece bonus granted health recovery based on the number of Built Bitter stacks when stowing a weapon, essentially granting players a way to quickly gain stacks in PvP and then heal off of them, surviving where it wouldn't normally be possible.

As stated in the post, Bungie will be unable to work on fixing these armor sets in PvP due to the abrupt and complete end of support for Destiny 2. As such, fans have to expect that both the Grasp of Avarice armor set and the Duality armor set will never work again in the Crucible.
