Classroom of the Elite Season 4 Episode 6 Review

The following article contains spoilers for Season 4 of Classroom of the Elite.

Classroom of the Elite Season 4 (Yu-Jitsu Season 4) is once again presenting a great season with exciting episodes and a plot that slowly heightens tension ahead of the special exam to be held at the end of the first semester. Although the animation is not as polished as series like one pieceOverall it's pretty good and comfortable (at least for now).

The sixth episode of the new season serves as a bridge to upcoming events as the class and students prepare for their exams. That's why the episode may feel a bit slow to some, but sometimes a slower pace is necessary to develop the plot.

The special test introduced at the end of episode 5 is still a few months away, but some rules have already been laid out. Students can form small groups, and small groups can form larger groups (up to 6 people). There are some rules about how groups are structured, including the ratio of boys to girls in certain situations.

Students from different classes can be in the same group as long as they are all in the same grade. However, cross-class groups split points potentially earned across the class, so while joining a group with students from a “better” class may be better for individually mitigating risk, it may also be worse for a class with fewer points. Horikita seems unsure yet what strategy is best to follow in this case, but is considering the idea of forming an alliance with another class. Although a risky move, this could allow for a three-class alliance against Class A, which could put the top class at serious risk.

Does this mean the enemy of my enemy is my friend? It's a reasonable thought.

— Suzune Horikita from Youjitsu Season 4, Episode 6

However, Horikita believes that Class A will take steps to prevent this (and she is correct, as Sakayanagi suggested an alliance with Ichinose to prevent the three classes from interfering with Class A). Waiting to see how the other class representatives will react, Horikita asks Class D not to group them with anyone yet. In fact, she doesn't seem to have any interest in forming a block with the A-listers.

The Real Dangers of Special Testing

The biggest risk in ‘Desert Island Survival Game Special Test’ is expulsion. According to regulations, students in the bottom five groups will be penalized and expelled. Although he can save with points, Horikita wants to avoid a situation where many students in Class D are in the bottom group. Because their class points are not enough to save them all. Additionally, if all group members (or students taking the test alone) are unable to continue the test and fail, they may be expelled.

Despite Horikita's instructions, a student from class D joined the group along with two students from class B (but after speaking openly with their classmates). The problem is that the student in question is the girl Kanji Ike likes, Satsuki Shinohara. Satsuki appears to reciprocate Kanji's feelings, but they have never discussed it with each other. Moreover, the person who invited Satsuki to the group was Kyogo Kamiya, a boy from Class B, who seemed to want to confess his feelings for Satsuki during the test. Normally this wouldn't be a big problem in itself, but Ayanokoji and Horikita are a little worried that the love triangle could weaken Ike's performance during the test.

Ayanokōji decided to take the test alone. Perhaps this is the best strategy for him, as another special test (introduced in the first four episodes of the new season), in which first years are awarded points when Ayanokōji is expelled, lasts until the end of the first semester. Additionally, some students are given cards through the school app that can help or complicate their exam situations. Ayanokoji received an 'Experience Card' that increases his class points by 50%, but he will be penalized if he is not in the top 30%. But he seems confident he can take first place (no wonder he's often called the smartest character in animation history). Despite this, he still hasn't figured out which of the first-year White Room students are.

What to expect next this season

The survival game is scheduled to take place at the end of July. Considering that the season lasts until the first semester, it is expected that the season will conclude with the results of this test. This episode is more of a prelude to the tension we'll see during the test. Since there are still many groups to be formed, the next episode will likely still focus on exam preparation, especially after Horikita establishes the best approach to save the students of Class D from expulsion. Despite being a continuation of the story, the fourth season is a great entry point into the franchise.
